Suppose your child ... your teenager ... even your spouse ... is angry.
What are you supposed to say? Should you pretend he/she isn't angry?
Should you try to reason with them? Act nice and risk getting run over?
Anger takes many shapes and forms, ranging from simple expressions of irritation, to rage reactions.
It can destroy relationships ... ruin communication ... and even contribute to physical discomfort. My starting point in dealing with anger is to realize that there is virtually always an important point lurking beneath this "negative" emotion.

For over 35 Years, Dr. Lee Carter has been a practicing psychologist in Waco, TX. He specializes in psychological evaluations and works in jails, prisons, and detention centers. He often participates in courtroom proceedings.

Oh wow! This is so helpful. Teenagers can be so very hard to navigate. Thank you!

My daughter is very good at trapping me into pointless conversation....i have learned to walk away. She accuses me of running away, I say nope I'm not falling for this entrapment. The struggle is real😌

We all need to listen to our children. Yes they can be manipulating and we need to be cautious. But we should should listen to them. Remember it is a difficult season in their life. Sometimes we should not give them guidance, just listen. Ask questions to show them we are listening. They most often just want to be heard by their mom and dad.
