Here in India, loads of western luxury brand get their "expensive" fabrics stitched and rhinestones by expert communities of loomers who have been doing this for generations. The indian rupee is already lower in ratio compared to the dollar/euro, so imagine how cheap it is. Plus once these loomers started realising who they were making the fabric for and demanded better compensation, these fashion houses now get their fabric stitched without disclosing the identity, and later the same fabrics are used in upcoming shows.

I believe that. I worked for Agent Provocateur. They would send us the picking orders in our deliveries which show cost to make price. A $6 bra to manufacture gets sold for $300. a super highend $20 bra to manufacture was over 1k

The profit margin on these things are unreal. I work in a store that sells Armani and Michael kors watches (All made by fossil btw) we can sell them at 80% off and still make profit.

I don’t think that would be the cost, people managing the eCommerce system wouldn’t have access to that information. It might have been some other value like tax rate or something that got pointed to the price

if yall still think these brands cost so much based off the fabric they use, ur sadly mistaken. all brands use the same type of material u can get and a fabric store or walmart, , the only reason its pricey is cause the label/designs and how big it got.

I doubt the people that list the products online for a major company would know the cost price. The accountants and book keepers would know this but that information wouldn't be shared around the office to the website management team.

It’s called advertising, selling them like that will get collectors, collectors will sell them, giving them free advertising, and more buyers looking to make a flip like the rest. I’m so sad humans aren’t smart enough to know they’re getting tricked

The thing is, as much as this is pretentious it’s also the reasoning behind why some other items such as computer chairs have such high profit margins. The premium you pay isn’t for the material so much as it is for the r&d that has gone into making the product, market it and ensure the quality is up to par. The quality specifically has to be consistent and this is useful because not only does it ensure a product is well made off the shelf but also allows for consistent checking of authenticity. You can usually spot a fake over an overpriced albeit, original since the fake wouldn’t have had the same level of quality control applied to it during its development.

I’m not taking a side here but the above is what makes sense to me. Personally I find things with brands for the most part far overpriced beyond what’s a fair balance for me in terms of cost/value so Gucci isn’t really my go to. Also celebrities don’t usually pay for this stuff as much as they get paid to wear it. Free product = free brand advertisement after all.

It definitely costs more than 8 dollars to make something like that. The material and labor will certainly cost more. Not 600 more, but definitely more.

You are 100% paying for the brand name with this kind of stuff. However i do believe they use leather and other animal products? Id say maybe cost more than this to maufacture but SURELY less then 100 pounds total

This once happened on the versace website, I saw a pair of sneakers for really low in a certain colour and the other colours were still priced high . I checked out so fast...after that they put the price back up and it stayed there
