Dagon and the Pope

There are some disturbing similarities between Dagon, the fish god of the Philistines, and the mitre of the Pope and Roman Catholic bishops.

I'm not a Roman Rite Catholic, but a Greek Christian, currently studying religious anthropology. The Roman Mitre looked radically different in the 11th century; It was much shorter, and its point more defined. And what of us? Our Mitres look radically different, and yet the attire of our priests come from the same roots. The Roman Mitre doesn't even resemble a fish in its current form, which didn't look like it does now for Roman Bishops until the 15th century. You also don't use a depiction of Dagon. Dagon was a Babylonian wheat deity; You're showing an Apkallu figure from the ruins of the Temple of Ninurta. The misconception he was an aquatic god came from misunderstandings due to extremely limited information in the late Middle Ages. The Middle East was solidly under Islamic control, there wasn't much information there to begin with until the modern period.

Why would only the Roman Catholics, and not the Orthodox or Byzantine Catholics change their mitre design in the 15th century to look like an Assyrian temple carving that hasnt been worshipped since the 1st century BC that they couldn't even reach since the entire area was firmly in Islamic control? This whole presentation is just misinformation from Alexander Hislop's "The Two Babylons, " which has just as much reliability as Dan Brown's "The DaVinci Code, " and saying the Bible was all put together at the Council of Nicea.
