Small correction, In earlier models like raspberry pi 2 doesn't have on board WiFi, we have to use external adapter. But new models from Raspberry Pi 3 have built in WiFi.

The main reason for using Node MCU are: 1. small form size. 2. can be set as AP/Stn or both which allow interlinking connection network over factory floor or large factory or farm area. 3. It has lower power consumption compare other big units like raspberry pi, but power consumption can still be larger when compare with others module like ESP01.

Hi buddy, one small correction, RPI has inbuilt wifi, only problem is the cost is about 15 times than that of nodemcu. 🙂
