US TikTok Ban Upheld by Federal Appeals Court

TikTok’s Chinese parent company faces a ban in the US if it doesn’t meet a Jan. 19 deadline to sell the video-sharing app as a result of a federal appeals court ruling Friday. The three-judge panel upheld the US law. But this all comes into question with President-elect Donald Trump being sworn in on January 20. Caroline Hyde reports.

Even after being banned from the US 🇺🇸 in the New Year, TikTok and ByteDance may still have to pay.
The US has sued them, seeking penalties of *$51, 000 per violation per day per user* on collecting information on minors without parental consent.
The final penalty may be *bigger than the value of TikTok and ByteDance combined.*

Who is the guy in the middle? You should have some basic information & knowledge on the subject before opining. There's nothing difficult about taking down or restricting a domain or site... it happens regularly as part of DMCA enforcement against pirating sites. In the case of TikTok, it's even easier to enforce because of there's so much $$ to lose. App stores, ISPs, and TikTok itself become open to civil litigation & class actions by not complying. While the federal executive branch can make the ban happen faster, it can be done in practice without any federal executive involvement.
