Close your editing software. You have all the tools you need in-camera to create a multiple exposure image on your Z 5.

Watch to see how you can combine multiple photos into one shot with the full-frame mirrorless Z 5. You can create them in real-time by composing and combining consecutive shots, or later by previewing and combining shots you already took.

It’s completely unacceptable that in-camera multiple exposures on the Z cameras output as JPEGs only with no option for RAW, especially since RAW output was and is possible on Nikon DSLRs. This desperately needs to be fixed via firmware update.

Can't believe, this is coming from Nikon channel. Your film cameras also have a multiple exposure function, no need to rewind film.

There are issues with this function in every Z mirrorless and they were not fixed yet.
- The image shown after taking the last exposure is not of the final image but of the last exposure. I need to press the play button twice to show the final image
- If I choose series and a reference nef, I need to select that nef for every series of shots I take
- last is not a bug but a feature which is present on dslrs but not on mirrorless. They can't generate nef files from multiple exposures. I could easily do that with a dslr.

Very odd that multiple exposures are not created in NEF with the Z cameras. I doubt that processing is an issue, it works perfectly in the 2004 D2X, D 850 etc. and does it very fast!! Power under the hood is NOT an issue here, but perhaps all the blend modes added on have created power and speed issues. So what needs to be changed? (1). Allow a custom function setting for the users multiple exposures as they have been set. (2) Firmware update for NEF recording as a single multiple exposure, without the need for 10 separate raw images. (3) Reset multiple exposures to off, when the camera is turned off.

Man, if Nikon could absorb live composition and live time from Olympus, that would be super killer.

What can you do if you what to merge your just merged result photo into next multiple exposure photo?

Multiple exposures are available in all Nikon Mirrorless cameras. If merged exposure is required in raw files you do not have any other option except to change in post.

Love this feature but my D850 will auto shoot all 10 images (press once get 10 exposures) if I set 'Series' however the Z7ii makes me manually take each shot individually in this mode? Is there a menu setting to allow the camera to take the 10 shots with one press of the shutter release button?

film double exposures did not involve rewinding the film - only exposing the film again for a second exposure.

The combined output is JPEG, while all the DSLRs are able to create the combined output in NEF. In this way the multiple exposure is unusable. :-(

issue resolved: my camera was in video mode. i switched it to camera mode and issue solved. thanks!

i'm using a nikon z6 in manual mode; however, multiple exposure option is grayed out. i get a message that states: "This option is not available at current settings or in the camera's current state." Any advice? Thanks!

So how does one go about layering a pic like that in multiple exposure with a pic of...lets say my car or something?

Surly the Z9 will be different, and be the same as the D850 etc.

'Just got this camera specifically to do the multi exposure as the D850 to combine more then ten images only to find i can't, really disappointed.
