Affordable Housing Property Management: A Look into my Career

Ladies and gentlemen,

Today, I stand before you to share my journey as an affordable property manager—a journey that has been marked by challenges, growth, and remarkable experiences that have sculpted me into the professional I am today. My background is a tapestry of unique experiences in various properties, each teaching me invaluable lessons about the world of property management and about myself.

My journey began as an assistant manager at EAH Housing, overseeing 95 units. This was where I first dipped my toes into the world of property management. It was a time when I learned the ropes, from tenant interactions to property maintenance. I got my feet wet, and my passion for this field started to take root.

Next came Poco Way Apartments, a place etched in my memory as the most dangerous property I've ever managed. It was a time when I wore body armor every day, not knowing what challenges awaited me. I vividly recall the constant police interactions, the necessity to run for cover to avoid crossfires, and the shocking attacks on our managers, including one incident where I was attacked by a homeless individual. It was an incredibly hard and stressful property, but it taught me valuable lessons in conflict resolution, resilience, and the importance of keeping a cool head in the face of danger.

My journey then led me to MidPen, where I delved into the complexities of legalities and paperwork. This experience was crucial in honing my administrative skills. I faced challenges beyond the paperwork, including gossiping and gaslighting, which forced me to develop a thick skin and a calculated approach to my work.

Joining AMC marked a significant turning point in my career. It was here that I became a manager for the first time and had my first post. As a young leader, I quickly realized that my age made me a target, and people would test my abilities. It was a time of personal growth, where I learned the importance of staying sharp and resilient.

Aperto was another milestone, where I found myself embroiled in legal battles and faced constant threats. This period taught me the power of perseverance and the necessity of navigating office politics and backstabbing. It was also where I had the unexpected pleasure of meeting the love of my life.❤️

Returning to EAH Housing, this time in a rural property, was yet another transformative experience. Here, I fought an uphill battle against a community resistant to change and hesitant to accept me because I was different. I learned that sometimes, the best course of action is to walk away, preserving my integrity and values.

And now, I find myself in a new place, ready to take on new challenges and opportunities in the dynamic world of affordable property management. My journey has been a rollercoaster ride, filled with highs and lows, but it has shaped me into the dedicated and resilient property manager I am today.
