Blender: Logo Animation Tutorial with Lasers

I decided to create a logo for the channel, and then I made this animation. Thought it would make a good tutorial. The first video will cover the modeling and animation for everything from the metal plates to the sparks and lasers. In the next video I'll show how I made the materials.

00:00 - Intro
00:35 - Reference Image setup
01:15 - Mesh outline
02:45 - Initial Camera
03:05 - Mesh Planes
04:02 - UV Unwrap
05:00 - Cutouts
06:31 - Cut Paths
07:58 - Cut Tip One
10:04 - Particle settings (sparks)
13:45 - Cut Tip Copies
16:30 - Laser Geometry and Animation
18:55 - Rigid Body Physics Simulation

I didn't exactly follow this one step-by-step. Instead, I complicated things for myself by importing an SVG shape (which required a lot of clean-up) and adding a couple of circles around it. Long story short: it took me a while to get it together in the puzzle-piece style you wind up with, but I finally did - and now I have an animation almost identical to yours.

I didn't have a problem with leaving the cutout set to "Convex Hull" (around 20:30 in the video), and it actually produced the best results in my case.

Love it - can't wait to see the materials! 👏

I've been trying to think of a valid way to do this but more like the interplay logo

if you look at how the interplay logo does the laser engraving, it is some kind of boolean operation, but in blender the method used appears impossible on complicated cursive text; as it slows the pc down to a crawl.

I notice that in yours it actually cuts out the whole shape, and doesn't really "engrave" in realtime

If you can think of an interesting solution to this issue using geometry nodes or a creative boolean approach, I'd love to see you beat my janky solution to this issue.

Nice tutorial :) Did you try writing animation add-on and Flexi Bezier tools? Both are free. That'd make this much easier.
