That 1 Series is either an SE or EfficientDynamics. The ED came with the 1.6 diesel which CHEWS timing chains, however if the detuned 2.0, as it's a pre-facelift, thats an N47 which also chews chains....

Listen very carefully to that chain mate, I'd definitely not buy anything with that 1.6 bmw diesel in, had one blow and just got away with another, sold it off cheap, tbh these modern chains are worse than cam belts IMHO.
