The Day Everyone Found Out How INSANE Diana Ross Really Was
Diana Ross wasn’t even supposed to be a big deal in The Primettes. The whole group was Florence Ballard’s brainchild. After she performed with The Primes a few times, their manager was like, “Florence, you’re amazing—start your own group, and I’ll manage you.” Florence was all in and immediately called her bestie Mary Wilson.

According to Mary Wilson, they all took turns singing lead in their early "No Hits" days. It just so happened that their first hit "Where Did Our Love Go" had Diane singing lead. That's the reason he made her the lead singer. Had the first hit had Flo or Mary on lead, guess who he would have pushed? Berry was a Businessman and he wasn't stupid enough to mess with the sauce! If people were buying records with Diane's voice, he wasn't going to pull her off. Plus, he realized he could work her. Mary said that Diane was a hard worker and Gordy was very rough on her. Being his so-called "favorite" didn't mean she had it easy. Not only that, they all got paid the same! Diane would learn that in the 80's when it was time to renew her contract and found out she only had a few hundred thousand dollars to her name. They thought they had millions; although Flo warned them when she got fired about how Motown lowballed her with her initial settlement. And yes...I can see Diane being testy with Flo during her rough period because I'll bet Gordy chewed her out every time Flo didn't do something right. After all, she was supposed to be the "team leader" and was supposed to be managing Flo. Gordy eventually made the decision to fire Flo when he realized Diane couldn't make her "act right".

What a f***ing mess! Much of it based on gossip, rumours, and inaccurate reporting. Even the album covers shown are fake! And who the hell is “Galadis” mentioned at 4:41? Just

Diana Ross had the talent. Even when she left Motown her career went on. Unlike the others.

Diana Ross had more of IT than any of the others: an infectious pop voice, more glamour, star power. Mr. Gordy recognized it, nurtured it, promoted it. It was a powerful partnership. Miss Ballard had a sad life—It’s been turned into the stuff of high art. Mary Wilson carried on as best she could always giving her best. Then again, there’s Diana Ross, the boss, the diva, the super star, the woman who lived an impossible life, who has a huge and loving family surrounding her through her five talented children and their off spring. Don’t be mad about that.

I grew up in that era and don't think for a minute that Florence Ballard wasn't famous and well loved.

Stop with the 60yr old bullshyt. Yes the Primettes was ms Ballard's but it was ms Ross friendship with Mr Smokey Robinson that got them to Motown and once at Motown the group The Supremes belonged to mr Berry Gordy and regardless what ms Ross did all the young ladies were paid the same had the same gowns Traveled the world together and ms Ross designed and made the groups dresses in the beginning.... The remaining black women of that generation are all in their 80s none of this even matters

People hated Diana in the Supremes then hated her when she left. I've got nothing but 🖤 for Diana. It's funny how David Ruffin behavior was worse than Diana and doesn't get half time smoke people are giving her and he was kicked out of the group! SMH. At the end of the day it was Berry's decision to make Diana lead. That decision resulted into great success. To all those who feels Mary is a better singer than Diana can you explain the Supremes lack of success when Mary took lead after Diana's departure? 😏😏😏

Pertaining to Flo, let’s be honest: she was not willing to do what it took to be the star. She didn’t have Diana’s ambition. Take it how you will.

Berry saw star potential in Flo, but she was bull-headed, combative, had only a “slightly” better voice than Diana, and didn’t possess the work ethic to be a star. When she was outed from the group, she still could have succeeded. Unfortunately, she played the blame game (like not being able to use the Supremes’ name as an excuse), drank like a fish, and put too much trust in shady men of low status.

I wished Flo had succeeded. I think she would have been a perfect fit for Lady Sings the Blue. Unfortunately, she just didn’t want it bad enough.

Imagine the world without Diana Ross!! You’re all being silly. A star was born and that was it. Everyone else just needs to follow behind. There’s no one else but DianaRoss!!

I guess whoever criticizing Ross's behaviour would reject a good job offer in order to please their friends. Berry Gordy was a businessman first and above all. He knew where the money was and who had the most marketable voice. 12 number one singles with the Supremes and 6 more as a solo artist plus an Oscar nomination and a gazillion of other achievements are proofs of that. He believed in her more that she even believed in herself. Business is all about money so, their relationship was second to that. There are trains that only come once in a lifetime. If Diana Ross was a guy, we would be thinking of him as a powerful, important man instead of a bitch. Accept that offer, you are not offending anyone. If you don't grab it, someone else will take it away from you. They won't be sorry for you, right? Life is hard so, if someone believes in you, don't reject that opportunity. Had Mary or Florence been given the opportunity Diana had, they would have behaved the way Diana did. It's a cruel world so, you have to be on the lookout.

Mary had half a century to prove herself. I suppose that Berry and Diana stood in Mary's way all that time.

Diana was the Beyonce of the sixties I remember my mother making us be quiet every time she was on TV. Even after I grew up and got into the night life everyone wanted to be Diana Ross.I have all of her records I treasure my mother's collection the most.

When it comes down to the showbiz world of entertainment individuals that work with in the music business or the film industry are not your friends. People in the music industry are just your coworkers. Not everyone in the music industry becomes close to one another. What you see on TV shows and films are make believe. Just because individuals portray themselves as friends in films or TV shows it doesn't mean that they are friends for real life because the media world is just make belief.
