“Hey boss, what’s this torch doing in my rig?”
“If SHTF on you’re run you’re a welder and fabricator”

Y’all’s view of right to, and ease of, repair is fabulous. Disposable fasteners are a headache.

Mechanical Engineer here. Huckbolts are used for two reasons: 1) they offer constant clamping force, and 2) they are extremely rapid to install. 1) means better longevity and more consistent performance, 2) means cheaper manufacturing. I fully support right to repair but huckbolts are not chosen because they are harder to repair.

HUCK-bolts are better than regular bolts dealing with cyclic transverse forces.

As someone who has lengthened/shortened and worked on trucks like these, i appreciate your effort 👌

Keep it up. You're doing great work. As a mechanic, I complete agree with your thinking.

The HUCK bolts that tractor trailer manufacturers use when assembling the tractor frame are not in efforts to prevent an individual from repairing across member or any part of the frame. In actuality, the reason HUCK bolts are utilized is simply for ease of assembly during the manufacturing process, and to ensure proper torque of each each of the fasteners to prevent the loosening of frame cross members. The right to repair act is simply allowing an individual to repair a damaged piece or part without purposely covering it up or making a proprietary piece that cannot be obtained or fastener that cannot be removed, etc. Manufacturers use HUCK bolts etc in order to better standardized assembly practises while maintaining quality control. As an example Honda has historically used a 10 mm metre bolt and nut for most of their assembly in the engine compartment and throughout the vehicle in efforts to decreased costs of retooling and resizing of fasteners and the tools required to install them. This keeps cost low while increasing quality control and simplifying assembly. I was a tractor trailer technician for years and in those years I had never seen a cracked cross member on the tractor trailer. Please don’t make it seem like this is a regular occurrence, and if someone were to make a field repair, it would be unachievable due to the nature of the fasteners. If a viewer knows nothing about automotive repair for tractor trailer repair repairs, and viewed your video without the knowledge skill set of a technician. More than likely this video would seem to be a legitimate effort to increase awareness regarding the “right to repair act.” Fortunately some viewers have the skill set and knowledge to see propaganda used to promote a business model that supports the customer rather than industry.

This guy is living my dream. He is building his own automobile and not only building it for himself but building it for others, he also gets to bring his dog to work.

All for the kickbacks to/from dealerships. I've done quite a lot of repair on passenger vehicles and constantly curse the engineers for putting certain things in spots that are ridiculously hard to reach, even with some specialty tools. Even worse if something isn't that hard to reach, but other components are in the way making removing impossible without taking apart things that have nothing to do with the part requiring repair.

Im blind, cant drive, live in a city, have no need for a truck, but still want one of these! The build and design ethos is so good!

Excellent craftsmanship. Looks like a dream. Awesome work.

Doing the job like you're going to be the one servicing it later is a good way of ensuring that actually happens.

Just incredible. I pray the rest of the automotive industry is listening.

Someone who finally thought of maintenance/repair access with movability. You are doing more rights by the day...
If I have the money with need for a semi. I'm definitely buying an order for one of these trucks

I think they were all designed to be multiple pieces until someone to weld it all together and rivet it all together for different reasons. (Such as cost effectiveness in manufacturing)
