Erik Satie - 'Gnossienne no. 2' (beautiful French piano music). Erik Satie, the French composer, wrote his first three Gnossiennes in 1890. Satie, a notoriously and very fascinating and eccentric person (definitely worth watching a bio of him), wrote an initial set of 3 gnossiennes for piano (7 pieces in all are now called gnossiennes) and they broke the mould in their structure - free form flowing, very descriptive or evocative miniatures written with no bar lines. This was unheard of at the time. Satie used the word Gnossienne to entitle the pieces - no word existed as it was such a new concept. The 2nd Gnossienne is very linear, flowing, like a long out breath. The flow of the piece gave me the idea of combining the music with gliding along the river in a rowing boat. I have to admit I asked hubby (Patrice) if we could take the piano aboard a rowing boat 😂! Not really a possibility!!....so we took a trip with Edward and filmed footage to make a background. I think the effect is really nice and really suits the music. Watch out for Patrice and Edward rowing, Edward and I pretending we're on a gondola, beautiful reflections, some spectacular images of the river Nidd that flows through the historic town of Knaresborough in North Yorkshire and a funny bit at the end. Love and hugs, Louise. 💖
