Good tips Chadwick - In the past I have done tons of projects and forgotten to delete the render cache before deleting the project - which meant that there hundreds ( maybe thousands ) of orphan files. So instead of just deleting all the cacheclip folder contents and having to recreate the ones that I still was working on. I found that there is a info.txt file in the top level of all the folders that told me what db, and project name the folder was associated with. So from then on, I would go to the oldest cache folders and open the info.txt in it and if the project was an old project that I no longer have or want to open. I would then just delete that folder. Takes a bit longer but keeps a clean and current drive.
Also, since version 17 I don't see a way of deleting Optimized media in Resolve, so I use the same method to make that decision as well.

Thanks for the help! Had 420GB being used by Davinchi Resolve. They really need to do something to fix this. Quite annoying.

Hello Chadwick! Always enjoy watching your videos, would you be willing to do a behind the scenes on your YouTube creation process? I have been doing some internal training videos for work trying to match your style! Be curious to see stuff like what resolution your desktop is and screen capture do you use OBS? VO after recording or during? Are you dynamic zooming or using close up button on speed editor? Do you have any graphic or fusion templates you’ve created to quickly get through the editing? Hope this is something you think would be valuable to share for novice editors! Look forward to your next video!!

Perfect. All I need to know, to the point. Yes, works the same on Windows File Explorer.

Thanks Chadwick! Could you at some point go over your pen and pad you use and how you use it? I want one but am not sure which to get. Thanks again!

Thank your for posting this. I followed the PC advice below in the comments, I flagged a CACHE file that said 242GB !!! After I deleted it I gained about 80GB of space. Not sure if the other 160gb were on external drives? I've always used my primary drive for renders so that's a little bizarre.

Thank you Chad. Just what I have been thinking about.

SO just to make sure: I can go to my CacheClip folder and just delete the whole folder with no unwanted consequences - correct?

And then when I open Resolve again it will create a NEW CacheClip folder and create new cache for the videos I am working on. Correct?

It is better - faster to keep the CacheClip folder on your internal hard drive rather than an external hard drive? Correct?

Also there is no benefit or need to only delete Cache from within Resolve itself under the Playback menu - right?

What is the difference in the Playback Menu under Render Cache between "None" "Smart" and "User"?

Hi there — dual Windows & Mac guy here. The steps for your Windows subscribers are:
1) Highlight the following text with your mouse and press Control + C to copy it: Design\DaVinci Resolve\CacheClip
2) Press Windows key + S to bring up search
3) Press Control + V to paste
4) Hit enter
5) Delete everything in the folder

I use the ipad m2, how to delete the cache files in there, and also like others will it really not effect current projects??

How can you do this automatically each time Davinci is opened? Because you are correct, these are huge files that persist even for projects that are no longer being used.
