In Canada, we would call that a wood burning stove. They were used to cook on for generations before modern stoves/ovens came around

Keep a kettle going on the wood stove when you’re using it. Wood stoves REALLY dry out the air, and the kettle will held add moisture back in.

We built our first home, second home and now current home. We also flipped homes for years and have rental homes so, I found a great trick for removing wall paper. In place of special chemicals to do the job, you use the tool to punch holes in paper then spray with 1/3 Snuggle fabric softener and 2/3 water rum in then use puddy knife to scrape off. If brown paper remains repeat. It smells great and works great as well. Now we are older and need to downsize to smaller home, sad but when we built our current home we planned on grand-children but my only Son passed at age 16 so the house is so large for two older people to care for. What a terrific house. So much potential. I did quite a lot of work on my house and property many years ago on my house that was also built in the 70's. My son was very young like your son is Sam and he couldn't help me much. Now my son is 22 and whenever I need anything done I just call him up and we get it done in no time at all. I rarely do anything without him. Lesson #1: teach your son how to use his hands to build and repair things around the house. It will definitely pay off for him and (you) later. LOL...💔💔💔💔💔
