Episode 184
A breakout drive by Perseverance in its slog up the rim of Jezero crater reached a transition into a new terrain type. Many of the rocks here look like they were once covered in a paint-like coating that’s now peeling off.

Thank you, Mars Guy, for being here every week to update us on Perseverance, and other Mars information. I cannot say enough how much I LOVE this channel.

Amazing how even the simplest of observations can bring up so many questions. Thanks for sharing. Charles

You taught me about a coating mystery I was not even aware of. Thanks, Mars Guy.

Absolutely fascinating as always. Mars Guy virtually takes us to Mars every week. It'salmost as if we'restanding there. If only we knew the answers to all the questions!!!

Was wondering if Perseverance will zap the coating and underlying rock with its SuperCam laser; or if there is no significant added value in taking the time, as general composition of the rock and coating is similar to what has been previously explored.
A revisit to Episode 8, 59 was a good laser sampling refresher, and how this channel has evolved. Thanks Mars Guy for creating this evolving vlog of Perseverance's journey and explorations.

Another excellent presentation! The "perspective" Mars guys are especially good for visualising distances where there is little that's familiar.

Ta the update.
This coating resembles quite closely what is termed a "Desert Varnish" here on Earth, though the Martian version must be chemically different in nature.
All the best from Namibia. Desert Varnish Central.

SpaceX are about to launch a huge rocket but I find these videos about rocks way more interesting.

Once again, somewhat bewildered by the combination of vast time spans with imperceptible processes. Good luck with sorting it out.

I could watch HOURS of you walking on Mars (for scale) explaining what there is to see. So interesting!

Once more, I am so impressed by the clean, clear, and so well informed information, that we (who have resided on this planet for a while) appreciate greatly.

That deposit of rocks looks like it was caused by a glacier, or even a river. The summit would act as a shield and prevent their removal in it's "shadow" and the related slowing of the flow would deposit fine particles in the area, which is now the "paint" that you see.
