Appalachian Trail Day 3 - Climbing Blood Mountain on a Blistering Hot Day to Neels Gap

Billy Blue continues hiking the Appalachian Trail, Day 3 from Woody Gap to Neels Gap crossing Blood Mountain. We ran into some friendly hikers that helped him out with a missing piece of his water filter and another gave him some electrolytes. This is turning into a great cheap charlie adventure.

Water Filter Seal:
The seal appears to be made of silicone, so it conforms readily to an irregular surface. Looks like the same size that you find on a common garden hose. The person who gave you the seal, there must be a reason to carry extra. Nice guy!

So great hour, dad is helping for a bit. The bump out on the trees are called burls. They aren't yellow jacket nest. They are like a virus the tree has in that spot. They're so cool on some trees. Super nice of those other hikers to help you with getting water, the last thing you need to get is giardia. Yikes, similar yuk like Nuro. Seems like your surround by great people. Pick up a long sleeve sun shirt with a hoodie. They're light weight absorb sweat and usually have a UV 50 factor. I wear mine 100% of the time in the spring, summer and fall and sometimes as a base layer in the winter. Enjoy.
