Chemical Properties Of Phenol.
1..On reaction with sodium metal.. form sodium phenoxide..
2..On reaction with sodium hydroxide... form sodium phenoxide and water molecules.
3..On chlorination of Phenol.. form ortho and para chloro phenol in which para are more stable due to steric hindrance.
4.. Nitration of Phenol....in the presence of dil nitric acid form ortho and para Nitro phenol...but in conc HNO3 the phenol oxidised thus before Nitration,first sulphonation then after Nitration occur,...in this reaction trinitrophenol is form...which is known as picric acid.
5..Fredel Craft Reaction....a.. Alkylation..In this reaction phenol react with alkyl halide in the presence of Lewis acid form ortho and para alkyl phenol
