#SuitRules #suitbuttons
Now if you’ve been around the style game for quite some time now then you would know the #1 golden rule when/ wearing a suit. That is ALWAYS leave the bottom button open.

I’m sure most of you know this I mean you look great with the suit, it shows you pay attention to detail but do you know why we don’t button the bottom button?

Do you know the theory behind it or why is this now the norm?

Reason I ask because when you are out to a formal setting, you may see friends and family that do not know how to properly wear a suit and one of the common mistakes is having their suit jacket completely buttoned.

Now as a respectable, stylish, gentlemen as yourself. I’m sure you would be more than happy to correct them to make that very small adjustment right?

But you may be challenged as to why they should do such a thing?. I mean the bottom button is there so why don’t we use it? It only makes sense to use all of the buttons! You friends may tell you

But what do you tell them? You can’t just say because your favorite style youtuber says so, that’s not a valid reason. So let me share with you two common reason why we do this. Let’s start with the most interesting backstory first.

So it all starts with King Edward the 7th when he was the price of Wales. You see King Edward ate like…well like a king…makes sense a king eating like a king so this eventually led to him becoming overweight. With those extra few pound, he was unable to completely button his waistcoat so he just stopped it at the top button to make it at least hold together.

Out of respect and fear of the king, eventually everyone in England stopped buttoning the bottom button.

Now as for how accurate and true this story is…I really can’t confirm that but it’s cool conversation topic to have a cocktails and show you off a bit your history knowledge.

I mean talk about being an OG trendsetter here! Kanye aint got nothing on king Edward man. Alright so second theory behind this rule and it’s the most uninteresting and straightforward to tell it and that is simply telling your friends that modern suits were designed and cut to drape in a certain way to Create a better looking silhouette.

I personally always thought this was lame: we all do this because one British king got fat and that changed the way men wear suits the world over? That's a lame trend-setting reason. Time for some new trends, do your own thing. It's a well-made video though.

I've always thought this was stupid, and still do, for the most part. On very tightly fitted suits it looks better to only fasten one button, but on jackets, especially double breasted jackets, it annoys the fuck out of me, and imo looks stupid, and I don't care what any fashion "gurus" will say.
