4:04 as a construction worker I can tell you potholes are not from global warming. They are from improper preparation of the road prior to the asphalt going down. Most contractors now days use a Asphalt ceiling compound style oil which does not Bond the asphalt to the substrate. Tack is the proper material to put down to prevent potholes. They use it on Airport runways and you don't have potholes in airport runways if they didn't use the proper method on Airport runways the airplanes would be destroying the runways every time they land

When I lived in Central Tokyo they closed roads at 10pm and dug them up and worked on upgrading the drains reopening the roads at 6am. It happened over a couple of nights, some noise but very little traffic disruption. I also saw main roads remaining open whilst new subway lines and stations were installed just below the surface. Japanese highway workers are amazing people.

In Germany they have proposed for people to hand in their driving license in return for a permanent bus pass. You can bet that when enough people hand back their driving license they will reverse their decision on free busses

Pay per mile will cause a huge amount of people to give up their cars. I have lived without a car for years and can easily go back to not having one. The UK is in serious decline and this will simply speed things up. Turning the clock back to the 1800s wont work.

Imagine driving at 35 in a 30 mph zone, intentionally or not, and your EV transmitting this data, automatically to your insurers, who, automatically, , hike you premium then and there, and you only find out when you go to renew. Also imagine you have had a pint or a glass of wine, or more, and the the cars in-built breathalyser, automatically, wont start, whilst it is informing the insurers, and the local police, it might, and can, decide to lock the doors, and give your co ordinates to the Police, or, even worse, drive you to the police station, whether you want to or not. All part of the digital cage to come.

As a self-employed courier driver using my own car, this screams of doing me out of a job. My fuel costs and insurance already sky-high, enough as it is, LEZ's will soon get me as my car ages, and pay-per-mile tracking is gonna be even more unfair if applied to petrol vehicles on top of the fuel duty, VAT and Road Fund License we already pay!
