🌿 Ready to grow your own rose plant at home? In this video step-by-step, we'll guide you through the fascinating process of air layering using a surprising yet effective material – tomatoes! 🌹🌹✨

Step 1: Select a healthy and mature rose branch. Using a sharp anti cutter or knife, carefully remove a 1 inch section of bark from the selected roses branch. Make sure to remove the bark completely, exposing the cambium layer underneath.

Step 2: Take a ripe tomato. Cut the tomato in horizontally. The tomato provides some moisture and nutrients to the branch. attach the Tomato to the Branch. Use toothpicks to stick tomato to branch.

Step 3: Take a 250 ml plastic cup. Cut the plastic cup in horizontally. Insert the cup into the branch. To secure the plastic cup to the branch tie it with zip tie. Ensure that the cup is firmly attached and will not move or fall off.

Step 4: Fill the plastic cup with wet cocopeat, Cocopeat is the best medium for retaining moisture. Gently fill the cocopeat around the tomato half, ensuring it is well-supported.

Step 5: Enclose the entire air layering setup with a plastic bag. This will help maintain humidity and promote root formation.

Step 6: Monitor Root Development. Carefully check for root development within the cocopeat. It can take several weeks for roots to form. Once the roots are established, you can cut the branch from the tree and plant it in a pot or in the ground.

Step 7: Using a sharp and sterilized cutter, cut the roses branch below the newly developed roots. Gently remove the plastic cup and carefully separate the rooted branch from the parent plant.

Additional:
The best time to propagate rose plants by air layering is during the active growing season, which is typically from late spring to mid-summer. This is because the plant is actively growing and producing new leaves and shoots, which will provide the energy needed for the air layer to develop roots.
Here is a more detailed breakdown of the best times to propagate rose plants by air layering in different climates:

Temperate climates: Late spring (May-June) or early autumn (September-October)
Subtropical climates: Late winter (February-March) or early summer (May-June)
Tropical climates: Year-round, but best during the cooler months (March-June and September-November)

It is important to avoid air layering roses during the winter months, as the plants are dormant and will not have the energy to develop roots. Additionally, air layering in the heat of the summer can be stressful for the plants and can reduce the success rate. Thank you!

Use to love gardening and watching plants develop, grow, and produce. Always thought of water melons and cantaloupe as babies. Squash and radish are so fun to grow. My aunt taught me how to get tomatoes started. Mom had a beautiful rose bush with awesome blossoms and a peach tree that produced the best fruit in the world. She planted clovers, too. So pretty. The yard was full of clovers.

Am I the only one wondering about the possible tomato plants that might grow later on?

Okay i cant believe i have to explain this just because she wrapped it in plastic doesnt mean a tomato wont grow later on just because you plant the whole tomato doesnt mean that the SEEDS that are inside the tomato dont exist tomato seeds are viable for 5 years meaning that the seeds dont rot away with the tomato the seeds are left behind in the dirt after the graft is removed and planted into a bigger pot or in the ground it is still possible for a tomato plant to grow!! I know this because i threw out old tomatoes out into the pigpen for them to eat but obviously seeds get left behind 2 years later tomoes grew there it doesnt always happen immediately.

this is very common in Indonesia called "soil bag propagation" for fruit trees especially mango, guava, durian, but others as well.
