I've had previous projects with friends, that I started from the bottom up, working my ass off, being the passionate leader, ending up doing anything & everything, but having to be all too grateful, if one of my friends did a few minutes of work. Not only did they de-motivate me in the end, the project became something really frustrating I'd rather not think about. Nowadays, I see the lessons in that rollercoaster ride, the biggest of them being - hang out with friends, but work with the competent. #reinventyourself

I remember one time in high school, I met a great man. On the first day of class, he said to me even before hello "You look smart. Let's be friends." And we did. From the get go we both understood that the real key to escaping high school was not to work separately, but in tandem. Overall, we understood how to keep the distance between friendship and professionalism. We were friends when we had free time, and colleagues when we had to work. And it was successful every time because we were both open to discussion and accepting/rejecting each other's ideas. A very useful law to consider in any case scenario.

P.S. - I also feel like this ties in directly to the statement of "family and business never mix" for the same reason that boundaries become fuzzy and eventually, somebody ends up losing. Great content on the channel!

Always look for the red flags, when somebody treats others with disrespect, just wait your turn to experience the same. Also, be careful when receive flattery. They do not flatter you, they do that to everybody, you - and somebody else after you - it is not loyalty just the way they get what they want.

"an enemy spared the guillotine will be me more grateful to you than a friend "
There were situations when people spared their enemies and got destroyed by them, so maybe it's not such a great idea to think that enemy will be grateful

Out of the 7 business arrangements I have had with 7 different friends in 2016, only ONE went off without a hitch. In every single other case, medium to huge problems arose, and in some cases, terminated the friendships. I definitely saw firsthand the danger in trusting friends too much, and won't be making those mistakes again. A friend that owes you something becomes extraordinarily passive and lazy in paying up or in negotiating terms BECAUSE they're you're friend and feel they have that leeway. That's at LEAST 75% of the people I know. Never let a friend owe you anything.

Yes a friend told me about a job. Once I got the job she was spying on me at work by asking other people what am i doing. She also was supposed to train me one day on a management position instead she said she forgot and that she needs to go home. I knew her since 7, we are not friends because of that.

I now have an ex-business partner that was once my closest friend. I brought him in on an Idea I had, fronted the money, came up with the name of the company, and did the lion's share of the work. He sat back wanting only to think and then watch me do all of the work. This freed him up to do paperwork. He ended up throwing some paperwork in my face that put him as 51% owner and convinced me that we would redraft the paperwork but needed it signed then to put in for a loan we were seeking. Suffice the details, the rest was downhill from there. He was extremely ungrateful, and I, far to understanding and forgiving with every boundary he overstepped leading up to that point. I really am grateful that you've made these videos. It explains a lot of things I've already come to realize and has opened my eyes up to even more. I really feel this is coming at an important time of momentum in my life and look forward to studying the laws more.

JZ and Damon Dash were friends and being rappers was something they had in common. They founded Rockafela records which went on to be valued at millions of dollars.Damon Dash went through personal issues like divorce and bankruptcy on his other business ventures. While all that was happening JZ suggested that they sell the recording label for less than its value.Damon agreed and they closed the deal. That very same day he found out that JZ had become the Rockafela records’ new Executive Board member and chairman! That in my opinion was the ultimate betrayal from a “trusted” friend.JZ went on to be the first black billionaire under 50 while Dash lingers around selling his old pair of Jordan’s on EBay.

Good info the only weak part of this book are the examples they are sometimes taken from way to far in the past and are difficult to relate to.
This shortened version makes it much more enjoyable to get the key lessons.

I've personally worked with friends before and prefer it. I can be more open and address issues even if they were personal. It was my responsibility to be competent with on the project I was working on. There were times things got "personal"- but we always settled it in a very "professional" matter and work was work- and so on. I think it all boils down to knowing yourself and knowing the person you're working with. I feel like as long as people stay humble- and learn to manage their expectations- it would really help. Though- this IS the 48 laws of power and I'm not sure if being humble is encouraged in the book itself. :P

Thanks for making these videos. I think I suffer from some weird ADHD thing and have a difficult time focusing on words too much- so having these videos gives me enough to learn from the book in case I end up "losing focus" while actually reading them. :D
