Never let mobs attack you from behind, you don't block or parry attacks from behind.
By default you should face mobs away from the party, in case they have a cleave or frontal cone attacks.
Interrupt is a high priority for tanks ***.
Whenever possible, try to keep mob packs close together so the dps can cleave better ***.
Whenever you can, try to keep mob packs as static as possible, so the dps can use ground targeted abilities more efficiently ***.
Tell the party members to run towards you, instead of away from you, when they overaggro (not so relevant in last few expansions, but still)

**Not to be prioritized over your own survival.

Maybe these are too basic, but they have been passed on to me in vanilla, by a tank friend.
I haven't seen many of these tips (if any) in these type of guides, and from what I've seen in game, they should be.

Great video mate, I'll recommend it to friends who are trying tanking for the first time :)

I just got back playing WoW
Dropped off in Legion.
Started a new Paladin Tank. This is the most fun i had in years and got me super excited about the game and lore again.
This is the kind of video (and all you other videos actually) that made playing WoW again easer. I thought it would be harder tho.
Greeting from México.

I just made a warrior and going to attempt tanking for the first time. This was extremely helpful as I have only played rogue since TBC and wanted something new to try. I must say I haven’t attempted any dungeons yet and plan on doing one tomorrow evening and it’s a little nerve racking. Wish me luck and thanks for the instructions hope I don’t screw it up

Tank tip #1: assume all DPS are chimps that found a keyboard and mouse.

Love the video!
This is my first time playing wow and I have only played guardian Druid so far and love it! There are so many guides that explain things as if you already know what it is which causes a lot of unease. I’ve been picking up stuff from watching other guides and videos or in my less than optimal guild but it’s all based on this same principle of understanding; “the gleeporl will do a sistople and when that happens watch out for the corblesnacks” lmao and slowly the words fill in but it is harder coming into a game that’s been around for ages as a tank!

TL/DR — This has been one of the more/most useful guides I’ve come across! Thanks for all the helpful tips! I’ll be going over more of your videos to learn more!

I've mained balance druid for years and finally just tried tanking. It was only a heroic but I've never been so nervous, I legitimately tensed up irl. Thankfully your tips came in handy!

Maybe this is a stupid or unimportant question but I’m new to tanking and playing non dps roles i(n pve) all together so I’m hoping someone might know. It’s pretty common for dps classes to disable backpedal especially in pvp. I have my snare ability on s instead of using it to walk backwards when I play windwalker BUT snare doesnt even exist on brewmaster and it seems sometimes beneficial to not turn around or risk getting hit from behind on an awkward side strafe. Is there like an addon or some way to make my settings change specific to my spec?

Also thanks for the video! I’ve found this very helpful. Some videos for beginners either touch on way too much and spend an hour doing it or don’t touch on enough. This was great and easy to digest

I hate that with my demon Hunter, I have to basically choose whether I’m going to play high tier pvp or pve. Can’t do both because of covenant abilities.

That convinced me to never play a tank basically haha. You have to know everything, teach everything to everyone and when you do a mistake everyone will blame you. Sounds stressful af, why would you do it? I understand why so many Tank expect some gold in return for tanking.

The best start to being a better tank is to develop a masochist's mindset. Then all the pain you'll feel will fuel you.

What professions do you recommend for someone who is mostly concerned with pve and only does pvp on the side? I was considering Engineering for the battle rez and invis belt since I'm a warrior, and alchemy for extended flasks for raids. Crafting is good and everything, but im a lot more casual this xpac and while I do play often, I dont focus on gold making anymore
