QUICK EXPLANATION 👇

Edward Henry Corbould’s The Magic Mirror (1853) is a mesmerizing fusion of history, legend, and the supernatural. 

The painting depicts Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey, witnessing a mystical vision of his beloved, Lady Elizabeth FitzGerald, known as "the fair Geraldine", conjured by the alchemist Cornelius Agrippa.

The composition is steeped in mystery. The armored Surrey kneels before the ethereal image of Geraldine, who floats serenely in a glowing mist, lost in a book, unaware of his longing gaze. 

The dark chamber is filled with alchemical tools, skulls, and symbols of magic, while Agrippa, shrouded in shadow, raises his wand, controlling the scene. 

The contrast between the knight’s solid form and Geraldine’s ghostly presence heightens the dreamlike atmosphere.

Inspired by Sir Walter Scott’s The Lay of the Last Minstrel (1805), the painting captures the idea of forbidden love, illusion, and the desire to see beyond reality.

This is interesting. It was painted during the rise of the Pre-Raphaelites and the subject matter is in line with the subject matter of the brotherhood. But it doesn’t possess the realism of the Pre-Raphaelites. It’s a beautiful painting anyway.

Its me the knight...
As if like a coincidence I was courting a girl in my recent workplace named geraldine. My co workers tease me because we have the same name, her being the girl version of my name.She is beautiful and friendly so I felt in love with her, My ultimate crush, I would say. Then I heard that she has a long time boyfriend and having a long distant relationship. "Not again" I said to my self. As I learned this, she noticed my avoidance to her until I completely ignored her and she didn't mind after that. That is when I resigned from my work and looked for her fb account, and she already had a child with her boyfriend. Sure, I was sad when I saw her got married but it is for the best.
