Some graphical glitches and performance drops on AMD GPUs can be fixed by running xemu with zink Vulkan wrapper:

env GALLIUM_DRIVER=zink xemu

I had no idea Xbox emulation had come so far. There was nothing for so long, I'm really glad it's finally progressing.

Still wild that we have such a powerful device in our hands on the go. I was blown away when the GBA came out in 2001

Just a heads up. Any external FPS monitor such as Mangohud will give you an incorrect FPS reading with XEMU due to how it works internally. Most of the games in your video are probably not running at a real 60 FPS. You need to use the XEMU internal FPS monitor found within the debug menu to get a real FPS read back.

Just got my steam deck a couple weeks ago, and already loving it! Given how popular home brew on Switch was...it seems that we were definitely in the right climate for a handheld like this to emerge. Not to knock any of the precursors like the Aya Neo, GPD Win3, or OneXPlayer. However, you just can't beat Valve's prices on the Steam Deck - and hopefully availability will increase as time goes on.

Dolphin emulator has achieved great feats in emulation. But, this video is so eye-opening to me because it really does take a long time to build a perfect emulator, no matter how much high specs you throw at it. Sure, they help a lot but with enough time and effort, you can emulate any game from any console you want with minimum specs requirements.

To note you shouldn’t use mangohud for fps measurements as it won’t read accurately. The built in emulator one is in debug>video. Also steamdeck has its own unique issues that aren’t in other hardware that are very close to intel graphics problems none of the contributors or devs has steamdecks so it’s hard to fix issues. There is theories about conkers and other games one being some Z buffer and frame buffer issue with steamdeck because of how it’s reacting which is unique to steamdeck as conker has been tested on other hardware weaker also without problems.

The good prospect of this is that a lot of it boils down to the emulator itself rather than the hardware, as some games run okay to fine and others run terribly. It's the kind of thing where in a couple years the Steam Deck should be able to run it just fine.

I've had my steam deck for a month now. Its great to see original games running on this. I love my steam deck, and its great to run games like half life 2 or oblivion, and the original starwars battlefront 2 games that are not on switch. Oh and we can't forget halo MCC, running all the halo games on a handheld is amazing.

The Xbox is probably my favorite console of all time, it has psychonauts, Blinx, the best version of Fatal Frame... It's incredible, hope the emulation improves tons more!

Perfect time for this thanks. The Steam Decks abilities are almost overwhelming so it's good to slowly learn about the different systems and how well they emulate.

@Modern Vintage Gamer 5:58 looking at ninja gaiden black, it seems slower than usual, although it is 60fps seems there's some compromises with slowdown, just to point that out, great video as usual :)

There's a good little work around for running Xbox games at 1x resolution, just press the quick access button (•••) and enable FSR, sharpness at 3 is nice, and there you go, better image quality for Xemu emulation
The Steam Deck is honestly a dream come true to me, & imo it's a true next generation innovation. It's a portable everything, I've been able to play OG Demon Souls, to Halo 2, to Ocarina of Time 3D with gyroscopic functionality. Honestly gyroscope is just the best thing ever, it's perfect for games like Time Splitter and you can configure it to activate in different ways :D

Great video! I just got my Steam Deck on Thursday and have spent the past few days tinkering with all sorts of things. When it came time to set up xemu, I decided to pass as there weren't many games I wanted to play and it was a bit more complicated than some other emulators. This has confirmed my decision, but I would love an update video in a few months if some of the games mentioned get these issues worked out! Thanks for the timely advice!

The framerate via Steam's Power display setting isn't really the internal framerate of the game. For example, Ninja Gaiden showed in the video as 60 FPS, but the frame rate was obviously visually 30 FPS. It wasn't dropping frames but rather slowing down to half speed. It definitely wasn't "silky smooth gameplay". But thanks for the vid anyways. Its always good to see XEMU progress, and hopefully once the team receive their decks we should start seeing performance boosts I imagine.

I got my 64gb Steam Deck about 3 weeks ago, put in a 1tb drive and played with Emulation first. Completely blown away on what it can do. I tried a few Switch games and I was playing Mario Kart 8 with no frame drops, not a single slow down... It's amazing. Any classic, flawless, WiiU, sure, good frame rates, no problem. I'll have to dump on some of my fav Xbox games on it...

Looking forward to see what other higher end consoles you can do on it...

Time splitters, jet set radio future, og bond games, and path of neo are some of my most wanted games to emulate

Great video as always MVG! Really enjoy your videos. One thing I'd like to see in the future is if you can add chapters to the videos, that would be a nice touch.

I love the irony of "007: Everything or nothing" and it's like the right side of the screen answers the question: "Nothing". 1:46
