I loved how traits and skills bled into each other:
-Perception benefits energy weapons, explosives, and fire based weapons.
-Explosives benefits energy weapons melting people.
-Meltdown takes the synergy of energy weapons and explosives along with melting people and makes your Plasma weapons doomday devices.
-Add "Plasma Spaz" with your Perception/Energy Weapon Synergy, and vats benefits from accuracy and AP cost.
-Energy weapon build in New Vegas is OP as fuck.

guys, you can stop saying "this is overpowered" or "that is broken strong". Every build in this game is stupid if you do it right. wanna one tap the legate (how is that spelled)? GRA antimaterial rifle and HE ammo. dont wanna fight at all? charisma/speech. melt a group of mercs in a second? energy weapons. just wanna go full on apeshit? unarmed/melee. If youve done it all and used it all you will notice that all the things are stupid, some just differently

This perk always made me think of the Melta from Space Marine; point at an enemy and reduce them to ash.
This perk made me laugh especially when the poor idiots next to the guy who got zapped weren't expecting it.

I've experimented with all the perks, but I have a preference for conventional firearms. That being said, this perk can make dead money a LOT easier

I ended up not liking meltdown, because it meant that I couldn't use my characters main weapons (energy) in close combat, and had to resort to melee.
