I have the Praxis Works chainset with exactly the same chainrings on them. Shifting is always buttery smooth. I have Sram Force shifters though.

Thanks for your video, it provides a good insight. For some reason Praxis do not recommend SRAM chains, this
rings alarm bells because (IMO) SRAM chains are great.

I was always skeptical about 3rd party chain rings. My Cervelo S5 came with rotor cranks whilst the rest of it was shimano. The front shifting was terrible. Swapped it out for a Shimano and I have never looked at it since.

I have the Zayanites on my bike and agree about the benefits of cold forging. I also agree about the random nature of the shifting of Praxis chain rings. Having dropped the chain on almost every ride for over a year I was beginning to think I was just using a crap shifting strategy but for whatever reason I've experienced exactly the same issues. Having handed my bike over to my LBS to see what they could do about this (oh, the shame!) I have to say that they have improved matters to a level that is now at least tolerable. Haven't dropped the chain yet! Don't know what they did but I can live with that - I'll just not fuck around with anything unless I have to. Strangely, I've found myself perusing a lot of component manufacturers' websites lately, emphasis on chain rings. Hmmm....

Great review, you must've put a lot of XP and effort to this. I'd like to add a few things even though some of them might not be much different than what's mentioned.

I looked a slightly more affordable chainring alternative to my Look ZED crankset's 53/39 rings instead of hardening the f-up. So I found out that Look was having Praxis produce rings for them and sell them with high prices after putting their brand on. Instead of paying hundreds to Looks', I bought Praxis LevaTime Cold Forged 52/36 chainrings from Bike24.

My bike had Campagnolo Record 11S on it with a Chorus chain. After putting the new rings on, I didn't notice anything unusual at first. But then I came to realise that it wasn't always be able to shift to the bigger ring if there was tension on the chain, I mean if it was slightly downhill, like -1% grade and below, it was shifting okay. But when it was flat (most of the time) or a little bit uphill, not too much to make you go lower ring, it just wasn't shifting to the biggest ring. It was trying hard but all I had was that annoying chain and rubbing noise.

Somehow I never got suspected of the rings. Why, they were the same as the ones Look sells so why should there be anything wrong with them? I've had different mechs check my shifting, including certified Campagnolo dealers, they all said they fixed it, and it was looking so when I wasn't on the bike, but after I began riding it eventually was happening over and over again. I truly mastered my mech skills, getting to be able to install and adjust a complete shifting system to a bike. Because my problems with it never came to an end.

I thought it was because of the chain, that it was short, so I replaced it with a brand new Record chain, didn't work, began to consider replacing the front mech, or even the complete groupset, maybe with a Di2. My fellas were making fun of me most of the time saying that I was crossing fingers before trying to shift up the front, which was merely true.

Then one day I realised how dumb I was not to try the old original rings. Since then, it didn't even happen once. I came to realise that those little pins on the Praxis rings weren't functioning at all.

I understand that Praxis is trying to research something new, that's okay, but it's just not ready yet. I hope they are aware of this and stop selling products that put customers in trouble.

Realy good video. Though you are pretty picky my friend, they shift pretty well to me

I bought a bike that was spec'd with praxis rings, 50/34, as a benefit. The bike was actually delivered with FSA crank and chainrings. It is FSA gossamer, 50/34. I asked the company to correct the change, and they offered me to buy and refund me the praxis rings directly from praxis. Would you advise just sticking with the FSA? Or look to upgrade to shimano rings on my FSA gossamer crank? In comments below, you mentioned to BosHK, "+Bosco HKG yeah if they work with Shimano rings! Alternative, which all the pro teams on Power2Max use... FSA rings. " Is this the same situation as my fsa rings? As my set is a basic, not fancy FSA set of rings. Thanks for any feedback. I greatly appreciate your review and feedback on these rings. I was just about to buy them.

I use these rings with a YBN sla 11 speed chain. Are you using a DuraAce chain? If so, that chain is optimized to use DuraAce chainrings. Just sayin...

Upshift is problematic with 10 speed Campa chorus too. I believed because 45mm chainline instead 43, 5 but chainring is the problem. Thanks!

Thanks. Very interesting.

I'm using etap on DA9000 compact rings with DA chain. Shifting is pretty much like your rig. Due the design of the etap deraiileur and the cervelo braze-on the gap between the outer cage and chainring is 3 or 4mm. Shifting OK but was a bit better when I was running the 9050 Di2 FD.

Just wondering if your front derailleur is 9150 Di2.

Speaking of chainrigs, would like to hear your take on Rotor nonQ / Osymetric rings. The next big thing or the next big bullshit?

interesting - i always thought they were the go to solution when considering third-party chainrings. i ride ultegra 6800 mechanical and a quark sram red powermeter, shifting is fine with red chainrings, btw. perhaps a solution for your next chainrings as sram still uses 5 bolts...

The shifting on the 11sp 105 chainset is infinitely superior to Praxis. You can't shift under load reliably on the buzz rings. I just don't think the catch pins are long enough or something?

2:49 You mean "nice and flat". Since sharp means its worn out.

Thanks for your review.

I’m just about to purchase a Power2Max and can’t decide between your 5 bolt bcd 100 with Praxis / Rotor rings or the Shimano 4 bolt spider. I’m thinking future proofing (praxis would look okay with SRAM or whatever) and maybe that the Power2Max is a bit ugly with the Ultegra 6800 rings on it.

What would you go for with these options?

did you find or try any other chainring with better results? I used this type Street with the FSA super road rings ( used on the original Cannondale setup) and there is no way to have an acceptable shifting to the inner ring.
I'm considering to have a refund, since this system does not work properly.

So better to save up a little more and get the shimano compatible NG version rather than use their Type S with Praxis rings?

How about a WickWerks chainrings?
Those 16 big ramps look very excessive and should provide a sure fire good shifting.
It just isn't a weight weenies chainring being similar weight to Sram RED Exogram Chainring.
