Leave those open and on its side. The birds will have a field day with those protein buffets.

" This trash bin is dirty, it just doesn't know it yet."

This happened all the time in summer when I was a kid, and it didn't matter if the trash was bagged or if the lid was down, bugs are bugs and they find a way. Always just left it until the truck came, then left the empty can out in the sun, and predators/exposure would fix the problem. Spray out with a hose and good to go.

I was about 10, and I was taking out the trash, opened the bin, and saw that. It was absolutely disgusting.

I’m glad I live in an apartment and the dumpsters are someone else’s problem to deal with.

If you have a fishtank, collect them, wash them, strain them and give to your fish! they are full of protein and nutrients for your fish!

This happened to us five times when we were living in California a few years ago . Would happen in the hot seasons, flies were more frequent then.

I used to work in the safety/security department of a big hospital, and one day our dispatcher was panning the security camera around in the ER. She brought up an image of a guy sitting with what looked like a garbage bag wrapped around his leg and some grains of rice spilled on the floor beside him. She zoomed in, and we saw that the "grains of rice" were moving.

I rinse residue off containers and allow to dry if possible, garbage is never overstuffed so a good twist and knot seals it tightly and it's never allowed to marinate in the bin for a week, imparting permanent and pungent bear/fly bait, it goes out to the bin late evening before or early morning of on pick up day. I have never had maggots or bears in my trash bin and it never smells.

One time I had a piece of chicken chest that fell on the floor and was put into the trashcan inside of my apartment, I closed the can but the bag was opened inside so I didn't pay any attention. I ignored the rotten smell that lasted 2 days and then it disappeared so I thought I didn't have to take the trash out yet since I was busy at the time. I woke up with 30cm sized maggots rolling around everywhere at home. I could listen to the slimy sounds. I cleaned the entire place and desperately ran to take the trash out and thought it was cool for now. 2 weeks later they actually grew into giant flesh flies and manifested my house all over again. The maggots hid in warm places. Took me 2 weeks to actually get it bright clean by putting bleach everywhere, walls included. I learnt my lesson that day. Always take the trash out. Don't ever wait or let the busyness get in the way.

We have a compost pile next to the chicken shit pile, and its very common to see maggots in there because usually its food that we cannot feed to the chickens, either because it's toxic to them, like onions, or because it's just THAT BAD, it's usually the old smelly meat that gets the maggots.

My family and I have shad this happen before; especially here in East Texas. You gotta hose them completely off, otherwise if you leave even a few, they’ll come back for sure, especially in the summer. We used Vinergar while hosing it down then sprayed it down with essential oils, they especially don’t like cedar or citrus scents. 💯👍🏾👍🏾

That, Sir, is Disco Rice. Fly babies. During the summer it's hard to kill the all. Garbage can ESPECIALLY! We use Vinegar, and try to remember to take it out more FREQUENTLY. We have a bug zapper for their parents.

I immediately knew they were maggots, but I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who thought of rice when seeing them.
