I'm not sure what report you are referring to but my original comment referred to the reseach by Prof.Mehrabian that is often inaccurately quoted (and known as the 'Mehrabian Myth' when it is, regarding relative importance of facial and body expression, tone and inflection and words. They do not represent the conclusions reached by him and so I was pointing out their inaccuracy as they are often quoted by those who 'train' people in presentation skills and 'body language'- another fallacy..

You say 55% of communication is through facial and body expression, 38% is thru tone + inflection of the voice. If you are going to put in throwaway stats that in reality don't make sense, accept it is going to be questioned. Don't waste time commenting? Why allow comments if you are not willing to be questioned? Is your video 'absolute' the 'one truth'? No, it includes statements that don't make sense + are used in a way that the original researcher says is not what the research concluded.

Great example of the misrepresentation of the Mehrabian myth regarding the level to which words are part of what is communicated. REALLY, only 7% is down to the words?? Professor Mehrabian himself who did the research that is (mis)quoted here says he cringes whenever he hears it. So, how about you just use facial expressions and different voice tones without words - you'd still get 93% across?? I don't think so. Offer your seminar attendees a 7% discount if you do it without words - I dare ya!
