The main reason for the housing crisis is the fact that the population has increased by 10 million over the last 20 years. In the 70s and 80s it hardly increased at all, which is why buying a house at that time was relatively easy for many people.

Why is there a housing crisis when we have an ageing native population and native birthrates (1.7) and below replacement levels (2.1)?

Who are we building all the new houses for? Do we not value our green belt? Can our services and infrastructure cope?

Answers please chaps, and please make them terse, salient and true.

Thanks in advance.

Wow Tr guys, do you think there's an elephant in the room? Perhaps we should point at it.

Could the fact that we have been bringing approximately 300k immigrants in each year be a contributory factor?

I've been watching you guys since the beginning. Please interview a "Groyper" on Demographics. I have only heard them talk by themselves or amongst each other. Would be nice to open the dialogue up. More voices = more robust democracy.
I think they have some valid points, but would love to hear counter-points or challenges to create a better understanding of the situation. Be the change! <3

We have an immigration crisis not a housing crisis.

our population is so high, everybody COULD NOT HAVE ONE ACRE EACH

Families used to live together, now everybody wants their own house,

we dont like tower blocks,

land is premium

blame building companies - not the councils that grant the permission?

We need to provide more houses for the homeless, not the natives but for those who haven't even arrived here yet lol

Hello gentleman, I've watched your conversations from the start and have enjoyed many of them. Thank you. Open debate is important. I don't like bullying - it's very much a Leftie tactic. (I'm an ex Leftie!!)
HOWEVER!!!! the debate about demographics is long overdue. It will have to take place. The majority of the country can see what the London bubble ignores. Blair's government increased immigration to unsustainable levels and this is undermining the country physically & culturally. Have courage and invite someone on to discuss this. It will reflect well upon you and your channel, silence your critics and most importantly fulfil your stated remit - open debate about "triggering" subjects. Saying that you won't respond to bullies feels a little weak. Stand up to them and discuss the subject - perhaps with one for and against, with you both as facilitators. All the best.

We wouldn't need to be building ANY housing over all without immigration, just maintaining things.

What is all this talk of demographics?... sounds like a interesting talking point.

I could listen to Liam go on all day: informed, articulate, opinionated. Great guest. Guys: Don't get into a below-the -line slanging match with your audience, though. It's disappointing to see all your good will get eroded over what is pretty much an indefensible position. If you won't talk about immigration and demographic destiny on your show, do a show explaining why.

I tried for 15 years to get planning permission to knock down a horrible 1957 council house in Newham and build 3 flats in its place. The final application was turned down because the proposed new build did not look like a 1950s council house and would be out of character with the other 3 houses in the row. The other 3 houses are completely out of character with the Victorian houses in the area!

Building houses solves nothing - rather like building more and more roads.

Why do they always build on flood plains ???? What lunacy is that ? They ought to build them on stilts or platforms so they don't flood.

They knew all of this about "help to buy" - any semi competent economist could have predicted this - this was in fact the political aim. It was only ever political virtue signalling to feign hope of buying to the mass of hopeful first time buyers. But it was always help to sell, and designed as such in reality.

I doubt it is a cartel. I suspect that like most places with housing crunches there are huge restrictions on where, how much, and how high you can build things.

Help to Buy is the greatest example of the Politician's Syllogism ("We must do something, this is something, therefore we must do this") of the last 20 years.
