23andMe test results changed my life. I wasn't even looking or expecting anything, but as an adoptee…it can be a crazy ride!

23 & me confirmed what I had suspected since I was a teenager. I have both gene variants for late onset Alzheimer's that they test. I found out last year when I was 26. Honestly, I wasn't that shocked or even gutted by those results. It's something that has affected a demonstrable amount of my great aunts & uncles, & even my grandmother who passed away in 2015 with it. It just confirmed what I already had a hunch about. But with this, I would love to be involved in studies that could possibly help predict and treat patients. Any small step to a cure is what I want to be a part of!

I do have the variant for late stage Alzheimer's. It wasn't a surprise since my mother and one of her sister's had it and it also wasn't the end of the world. I'm 75 and I feel blessed to even be alive and healthy except for some aggravating autoimmune diseases. I'm more concerned that I also have the variant for macular degeneration. I think I could live with not knowing where I was easier than knowing and not being able to see it. I wish you the best, but the best thing other than good medical care for any health issue is to stay active and positive.

Wow! My fiancé and I are both waiting on our 23andMe results. I proposed to her in that same park Kristin was walking in at the end of this video!

I took only the ancestry part of 23andme, I was really surprised to find out that I am a quarter Jewish. My Grandfather was an orphan and he never knew where he came from. This has shed a lot of light on that mystery. After watching this story I think I'm going to upgrade for my health results. So happy to hear she was able to catch this!

We must be related because King James I of Scotland is my 17th great grandfather. Nice.

King James the 1st of Scotland was also a distant great grandfather 👍🏼

My sister inherited the Alpha - 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. She found out a couple of years ago. Told the family that the genetics for inheriting it comes from both parents. A cousin on my paternal line has a brother they think might have it as well.

Funny, mine also said variant not detected for limb girdle muscular dystrophy type 2 and I was diagnosed with it 10 years ago

Not all health results will develop into cancer or other illnesses, it is just a possibility !

I wonder if she connected with any of her ancestors to see which branch carried the variant. BYW I think we have a common ancestor.

I feel happy about my discovery but fretting over how I think people see me because of my inheritance versus direct ancestry however I'm still in love with being a man capable of passing on my dad's lineages to the world forever through my son's and their inheritance hoping they treasure the life fathers give

I would like to merge mine so I can see the health issues I have verse what could be. I have no idea that 23 and me does this!
