In the Gloaming

When Al Power and I were grounded by Covid in 2020 and began our writing-recording project “Accidental August” released in 2021, I trolled through my poem and lyric files seeking any ones begging to be sung. I sent Al “In the Gloaming” and practically overnight he returned his gorgeous setting. At first listening, I traveled back in time, remembering how the 10 years old me felt singing art songs accompanied by my mother's supportive piano. Of course, back then I thought I understood love and loss … I was quite emotional at the time of recording “Accidental August”, still grieving Michael Smith. Listening to this rendition, I hear the weight of sorrow pulling at some of the notes. Perhaps you will hear it too, be comforted and in turn, forgiving.
