Wow. I just understood the quantum mechanical justification of scattering for the first time. The photon scattered, and therefore must have interacted with the electrons in the bands, but it was elastic and therefore the momentum of the electrons must be conserved. This is only possible when the electron shifts a full brillouin zone reciprocal lattice vector. And the brillouin zone can only come from the most primitive form of any crystal lattice. Amazing.

If G and x are perpendicular to each other then shouldn't G.x=0

Note: For bcc or fcc, for one certain direction (e.g. (100)), the set of the family of lattice plane {(200)} ⫋ the set of reciprocal lattice vectors {(200)(400)(600)...} ⫋ the set of all integer (hkl)'s
For simple cubic, the set of reciprocal lattice vectors = the set of all integer (hkl)'s.

Why do professor teach so backwards? First show what you mean by reciprocal lattice vectors are and then prove them with math...
