Teaching Your Gundog to Retrieve - Hunting Dog Training

When beginning to teach your labrador to retrieve, you want to set them up for success. Find a location to help your retriever stay on a straight path. Whether it's a fence, a mowed path, a driveway, or something else you want your dog be able to take a direct line to make the retrieve. Also, use a bumper that's in a visible location and bright. This will help ensure your dog continues to progress through this part of hunting dog training.

Just picked up my duck dog, 7 week old choc lab. Off lead he doesn’t get 5 feet from me no matter where we go. Also retrieves like a BOSS. #Genetics

My Australian sheperds (2 dogs) runs to the toy but won't pick it up or something like that. He's a pet. My German sheperds (also 2) love to retrieve. How can I get my Aussies to pick it up? They don't have any drive...

Any recommendations or tips to get my 6 month old pup to finish a retrieve off of a check cord?

He hangs up after he gets the bumper if I don’t have him in the check.

Thnx,
Jason
