Here's What Makes the Nissan RB20 So Special

Although the RB20 isn’t the most glorified or loved RB engine, it’s best known for being the cheapest option, plus it's extremely rev-happy thanks to its small stroke big bore design, which makes it pretty popular in drifting, where sustained high-RPM usage is common.

Plus, the RB20 sounds pretty awesome and arguably even better than the larger RB engines like the RB25, RB26, or RB30. Really, for the price, there aren’t many alternatives to the RB20 that offer the same tuning potential.

The R32 GTST is probably the biggest RB20DET platform that you happened to forget. Also the VL commodore came with RB30 variants

The RB20 is my personal favorite RB. My uncle had a Z31 200ZR and that engine was amazing in that car. I loved it. I really wish that engine was still around.

The vl commodore used the rb30e and rb30et, Holden where the only ones to release a turbocharged rb30e even though nissan made all of the different engine components in the “vl turbo” proved by Nissan logos in the castings.

The rb30e was found in the vl commodore, r31 skyline 4 door and the gq patrol, the rb30e also came with a carburettor setup in the patrol but only with efi in the vl and r31.

Holden never released any cars in Australia with a RB20. The Australian cars had a RB30e and et and the New Zealand versions were the RB20e

RB 20's arguably sound the best I think just like Toyota's 1GGTE.

rb20e had 135 hp, rb20de and neo versions were powering skylines up to r34 in 2003. 2 liter RB's have much smoller Bore and similar stroke to 2.5 RB's. You missed a few points, but it really doesn't matter, the only upside to this engine is that the metal of the engine block for unknown reeason are harder than 2.5, as tested by Motive video

Did you say done with inline 6s? What about the M series for BMW? It’s up to you to make vids but hearing your input on many different engines is cool.

I love the RB20, it's not a power house, but it's great at 300-350whp in an S13/S14. Great sound, decent power, not everything needs 1000whp, my neighbor had an RB20 swapped S14 and it was such a fun car. Best part is the sound at full song. If a cammed OHV V8 is the sound of America, then an RB at 7, 000rpm is the sound of Japan.
