How about politicians banning mobile phones in parliament and lead by example ?

Start with banning MPs having phones in parliament. Unbelievable at how many MPs you see on the phone, when a debate is going on in the chamber. Take that MP not long ago watching tractor p*rn totally unacceptable. If phones are going to be possibly banned in all schools, then parliament should lead by example.

It's common sense. Should've been done years ago.

Banning smart mobile phones in schools and for under 18s should have been done 20years ago and prison and heavy fines for their parents and guardians who dont ensure compliance . 💰

Yes. Make it law to give the schools authority to ban the use of mobile phones during a school day.

My school bans phone usage, but does not seize them. On occasion, phones are used (with authorisation) for research or whatnot. As an autistic person, I also benefit greatly from being permitted to listen to music. I've seen that be open to abuse, but, when the rule against phone use during the school day is enforced, it works as effectively as a full ban and seizure, just with fewer negative consequences. I believe it is a good middle ground.

This is how it was when I was in school in the 2000s. Though many didn't follow it. Of course, back then phone ownership wasn't 100%, so if one didn't hand in a phone, one could plausibly deny owning one. I suspect that's not the case now.

Just provide mini lockers at the schools for the phones. Job done.

Kids will have their phones for the journeys to and from school but not while in school or during breaks .

My kids private school in North Carolina collects all phone in home room and students can not get them until they leave for the day. They are more alert and communicate with each other during lunch.

Why is it that this government and authorities learn very late. Then we end up going backwards.

Got to agree on this one. They are there to learn, not play on mobiles. And I wonder why half the population are not educated!🤔

Of course they should be banned in school, my gosh the only times kids are learning proper full sentences as opposed to saying 'lol' & 'like' all the time or watching rubbish online is in school, their brains are already being pulvarised by social media theres got to be one time they will proably ever look at a book & thats in the classroom, there rant over x
