Discover the Basque Country in 2023, if you’re 16-25 years old

An opportunity (of a lifetime) …when someone or something opens the door to you.

That is the Basque program Ateak Ireki, which means Open Doors.

Registration opened up on February 1, 2023 and goes through February 28, 2023.

But here is a quick summary:

- WHO: 16-25 year old (dang! I'm too old! Ze pena den!)

- WHAT: An opportunity to go live and experience the Basque Country for 3 weeks in the Goierri, an area in Gipuzkoa where Basque is predominantly spoken.

- WHEN: Registration is NOW, February 1-28, 2023. The trip will be June 25 - July 16, 2023, a total of 3 weeks.

- WHERE: in and around the Goierri. Goierri is the name of the valley in Gipuzkoa (like a County in the States). So participants will live in the Goierri with a family and travel around the Basque Country. Sites include seeing the building of a replica whaling ship in Pasaia, Urdaibai, Bilbao, Gernika, Donostia (San Sebastian), Iruñea (Pamplona), Lesaka and much more.

- WHY: An educational experience plus is it's an opportunity to help strengthen relations between the Basque Communities in the USA and The Basque Country. The #AteakIreki program is inspired by an exchange held in the 70s in Oñati with students from the Basque Studies Program at BOISE STATE
