WE'VE BEEN STUDYING ENGLISH FOR 10 WEEKS | Zhang Weili

I began teaching Weili in October. It was not easy to communicate at the beginning of our language learning journey. Even now, I have to control my pace, use simple language, rely on repetition to deliver the message effectively and put severe emphasise on pronunciation and enunciation. I assure you, I am not trying to patronise her, nor do I speak like this outside of teaching!

It has only been ten weeks, and I believe the results speak for themselves. What we have achieved within such a short space of time is phenomenal. I am truly grateful to have such a fantastic team around me who are incredibly committed and understand the importance of learning the English language. I cannot wait for March 7 2020!

she is the real model for the young kids, and is the best example of realizing the Chinese dream. Working hard from grass-root to the World UFC champion. She deserves respect

She's doing good. English and Chinese are such different languages that I admire anyone who can learn the other.

Surpassed the Diaz brothers already. Anyone who believes this would be easy try learning Mandarin as an English speaker.

It’s incredibly impressive how good she as at this age. Already hall of fame status. First ever Chinese champion and then goes and has an absolutely awesome fight. I hope she stays on top for a very very long time.

Only 10 weeks? That's fantastic, I really don't think I would be as competent with Chinese in the same amount of time. Much respect.

Respect! As a native English speaker who has "attempted" to learn Japanese over the past 5 years, I know how difficult this really is. Its not just like learning any new language, its learning the hardest language on Earth. The three hardest languages for an English speaker to learn is Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese), or Arabic. So for someone who speaks Chinese to learn English, would be just as difficult.
If you tried learning any of those languages before, you would know what I mean. Its not the learning that is difficult... It is actually the unlearning of your native language to start thinking and forming sentences in your new targeted language. It feels very unfamiliar and just flat out unnatural when you start doing it.
It's very admirable how much dedication and attention to the finer details this woman exhibits, to not just become world champion, but to also learn a new language while being world champion.
It reminds me of a quote I read in a fortune cookie I got many years ago, that had resonated with me then, and still remember to this day. It said, "Those who say that it can not be done, should not disturb the one doing it." So lets all just enjoy witnessing greatness in the making. And with that said, I will continue to cheer for you Zhang Weili, not only this March when you defend your belt, but through out the entirety of your legendary career. I'm calling it right now, remember this comment 15 years from now. Zhang Weili will go down as the greatest MMA competitor the UFC has ever put a belt on.

Her name is Zhang Weili. She is from China. Remember her!

Weili got a really good mind set as a competitive professional athlete. She is so cute and humble, and full of love in her heart. All the best to her MMA career hope she will have more impact in both western and eastern in the future.
