I get asked alot "why did you become a male nurse?" usual answers are "I failed the anatomy test" or "I couldn't afford the operation". usually leaves them with a quizzical look on their face

I’m excited! Thanks ! I just started to create my perspective and it’s a working progress ! Definitely nervous to be a nurse but also excited!

I've started an access to higher education course to study nursing and hopefully study at university. I was bit defensive about my choice being male, but now when people ask what I'm studying I don't have any problem telling them.

Starting my BSc in Nursing this year, ideally to progress through the years to Psych NP.. I can't wait! Screw gender stereotypes.

Male Nurse is a Nurse . Male patients often prefer male care to balance the rare occurrence when a female patient has an objection . Men can care for others too . Apart from the pay freeze it can be a good job though don't bankrupt yourself to do Nursing as there are many better alternatives . We are increasingly treated like dirt by hospital trusts and the NMC who have no respect for the cohorts of dedicated staff . Lidl pays £10 ph . Go figure .

Wow, good video. In America, there isn't quite such a stigma with male nurses anymore. It seems like you guys are about 30 years behind us in regards to females being doctors and males being nurses. I've never been refused by a patient, in fact, I've been requested many times. I've also worked in ICUs before where half the staff are males.

have not experienced any negative things as a male nurse in canada

If you are declined the the patient is nit sick enough. In 42 years i've always approached all with confidence. I did not expect to be treated differently.

As a male engaged in nursing for over 50 years now, thought this was a good discussion of some of the issues. Showing my age, though. The lip and nose rings bother me; not allowed in the program I’m faculty at nor where I work.

I kinda feel that the stigma surrounding male nurses is disappearing because more men are entering the profession

About 10 years ago I have seen 3rd & 4th-year male nursing students with a 98% average on all of their assessments are given "the talk" about how nursing isn't for them and how they will be failed if they don't transfer to a related science degree like bio-medical science. One particular university I know has an unofficial quota of only allowing 2 or 3 male nurses to graduate each year.
And this is a shame these students with 98% averages would have been the cream of the crop of their graduating classes if they had been allowed to graduate.

They all have very thin eyebrows. i wonder if this is a coincidence

I have 10 years experience as a nurse and I do not advice men to go in to the field. Ignore all the commercials and videos like these. The women who are in the field do not want you there and will coordinate to drive you out. If you are handsome and have nice muscles then of course you are welcome but if you are a plain looking man the you are completely unwanted in the field.
