In The Sims 3, The ability to host a funeral was added with The Sims 3: Generations. After a family member has recently died, Sims can now use their phone and arrange the funeral. Funeral is a type of party in The Sims 3. It can be held on some community lots, but not on graveyards. You'll have to pick the time the funeral will start, the guest's attire and the guest list.
After the funeral is arranged, guests will start arriving
Guests that had a high relationship with the Sim that has passed away will cry and be sad. There are some special interactions available for Sims to express their sadness. Sims can express their condolences. Sims have the ability to cry on shoulder.
Consoling a Sim or having someone console you, or mourning the urn or the gravestone of the deceased, lessens the negative death moodlet.
When you mourn the urns of the dead or their gravestone, it will lessen the negative death moodlet as well. Instead of -50, now it will be down to -25, it can even go down to -12 . On Funerals, Sims can Speak Highly or Speak Poorly of the Deceased Sim.
For Sims to have a good time, there should be food available for the guests, so they're well fed.

Sims 4
In The Sims 4, arranging a funeral for a deceased Sim was added with The Sims 4: Life & Death.
in The Sims 4, like in The Sims 3, after a Sim has passed away, Sims can plan their funeral. By using the calendar you can choose the day the funeral will be held. You'll need to select a deceased Sim that the funeral is for. You'll need a host and up to eight guests. You can hire a mourner and an entertainer if you like. You can choose the Guest's dress code and the color of their clothes. You can hold a funeral on any residential or community lot. You can hold a funeral on any residential or community lot. We are going to hold Suzan's funeral on the new type lot - a Graveyard. Select the time the funeral will start and you're ready.
Funerals in The Sims 4 are a special event that functions similarly to weddings from The Sims 4: My Wedding Stories. You can start the funeral by calling your guests and giving a Eulogy. Every guest also respected the Moment of Silence. For the social interactions, Sims can offer a sympathetic joke, or an awkward sympathy. You host and transfer the funeral outside, you can place the urn inside the crypt, or you can choose any of the available plots to place the urn. During the funeral Sims can light candles, they can pour one out, give toasts and mourn the deceased.

Sims 3: First of all I'd like to say that it's a nice detail to add Funerals to the game as Death and Funerals are a part of life. That being said what I like about the Sims 3 is you can give condolences to the closed ones and actually mourn their death. Other than that however it felt more like a party and less than a Funeral which would have been quite disrespectful in real life unless the dead person in question made it very clear to throw a party before they died (which is quite rare tho.)
Overall I'll give this a 7/10 because it's implemented for the first time and there were a few good aspects.

Sims 4: The Funeral was fantastic. It felt more realisitic with the little speeches, the mourning, even giving a moment of silence. I also like how there were actual coffins and a picture there. Another positive aspect here is that you can make the Sims wear black and hold the funeral in an actual church. I really like that. Honestly... I don't know any real negative aspects here. Yeah, maybe they could have carried the coffin and bury it under the ground but that would be too much to ask. Honestly, this is a 10/10 for me. This is the first time I'm giving the Sims 4 a high rating like this as they usually don't do things pretty well but they did nail that one. Sims 4 wins this time.

Sims 3 is a celebration of their life, sims 4 concentrates more so on the sadness of it all. My sims 3 funerals were practically raves 😂

Life and death is one of the first times sims four did something better than sims three. I am LOVING this pack and really feel like I got my moneys worth. For once, lol.

As someone who swore off Sims 4 and went back to Sims 3, I'm pleasantly surprised the Sims Team did such a good job with L&D. This is the kind of charm and attention to detail that TS4 is desperately lacking.
