What do you do to remove the lock cylinder if the key won't turn to the start position? Because thats the reason im replacing it.

Thanks for the explicit tutorial. It would have taken much longer, or been a complete "fail" without it.
I never would have found that torx bolt in the top plastic, it fought me hard coming out....now it's an "extra part".
The tumbler also put up quite a fight, but after many invectives, I finally prevailed, and then with much celebration.
The new one slapped right in, and reassembly was a breeze. Just like new. Thanks again.

Not to split hairs but you might want to go try and take apart a 95 s10 and see that you should adjust your parameters cause the old dash is way different and has a full circle around the ignition on the top part of the column

I'm down to that part about removing the old lock cylinder. The video says to turn the key while holding the lock in the start position and pushing down in the hole that was created when removing the connector around 3½ minutes into the video. The whole reason for changing it is because the lock wont turn at all. I put the key in, the door open chime sounds, and nothing. It wont turn in either direction.

Just finished a 2000 S10 and this video was a great help. No issues at all just took it slow and followed the instructions.

This is how you do it on the pre facelift models
1. Remove plastics on top and bottom behind steering wheel
2. Turn key all the way then push the tap down while pushing out on the old cylinder
3. Once you get the cylinder out a little ways pry on it with a flathead or something while removing whatever you used to push the tap down with in step 2.
4. Once you have the old one out reinstall top and bottom plastics
5. Insert new cylinder and turn key back to off position and you're done

Thank you so much for this detailed video, I was able to change out my ignition in 30 minutes, and I am not car savvy lol. You saved me money by doing it myself much appreciated!

Great video. Would've never thought to have removed that small white connector/pin nor figured out where to push to get it released without breaking it. I did do a small deviation to the procedure in that instead of trying to remove all the electrical connectors ( I have 2wd) from the bezel I just pulled it out/away and Bungy-corded it to the rear view mirror. I did so because I previously had trouble removing the airbag switch which was brittle and broke some tabs so glue was holding it in place and I didn't want to disturb it.

Hey, currently trying to do this repair on my 2000 zr2 since some tweekers cracked the ignition when they stole it… only issue is that my old cylinder is locked into place, how should/could I go about removing that without damaging anything else?

How can I remove the key switch if I can’t remove the top cover... my top cover is actually wrapped around the key switch. I can’t do it in the order you did. I have to pull out my key switch first to remove the top cover.

YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND TURN THE KEY ALL THE WAY FORWARD ( TO THE CRANK OVER POSITION) AND PUSH IN THE WHOLE FOR IT TO COME OUT...IT EILL NOT COME OUT ANY OTHER WAY
