What Modi’s Slim Victory Means For India’s Muslims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party won reelection in India. And while the results were closer than many were expecting, a third Modi term is making many of the country’s Muslims fearful.

In the months leading up to the election, Muslim citizens faced hate speech from government officials, harassment at polling stations, police killings and the destruction of holy sites.

While opposition parties did score victories in regions with larger Muslim populations, it wasn’t enough to oust Modi from power. Over the last 10 years, anti-Muslim policies by the BJP government have left many members of the country’s largest religious minority even more marginalized. Muslim residents we spoke to say that the atmosphere of fear is still very present.

In a polling booth of a village in Rampur Uttar Pradesh where 100% voters are Muslim, total 2322 votes were casted. 532 house were given under PM Awas Yojana in this village. BJP got ZERO vote from this polling booth.

The Muslims divided India on the basis of religion & had their "own" land Pakistan & Bangladesh- where they were majority they wanted their own country. Fine. You had your country. Now huge percentage of Muslims stayed back. They have multiplied & have become 200 million now- one of the largest Muslim populations in the world. They have a majority of population in the Indian state of Kashmir & they conducted a genocide in the 1990's to kick away the minority Hindu population from there. They are fighting to have a free "Muslim" Kashmir. What more can Indian Hindus do for the Muslims? My father & grandfather was kicked out of Pakistan for we were Hindus and we escaped as refugees with our lives after leaving all our properties there. If you look at the past 1000 years we Hindus have had 1000's of our temples razed to the ground by Muslim rulers. We had to pay "Jazia"- an extra tax as we were Hindus. Do you not think that we Hindus have had enough of torture in the hands of Muslims???
