My “purge” lasted for literally 7 months, I couldn’t take the break outs anymore. And tret gave me dry eye as well, be careful if you decide to use it!!

Also, not everyone has a purge period when going on a retinoid. Do not let this kind of videos steer you away from one of the best actives out there.

If tretinoin is too harsh, differin/adapalene is a good alternative. Been using it since 2010, no issues. 👍 also, it’s over the counter!

My aunt had very severe acne scars. A Beverly hills dermatologist advised her against lasers. She had a carcinoma removed and was prescribed tretinon. She's been using it for 8 years and her skin looks amazing. Really softened her acne scars and smoothed out her scars.

Using the buffering method/sandwich was soo helpful for getting past that tret stage

Some people have intensely sensitive skin. Adapalene ruined my skin. Then I adjusted down to retinal, same story. It took a while for my skin to not freak out if I put anything on it more than moisturizer. Using bakuchiol, good quality benzoyl peroxide, peptides and ceramides and my skin has never looked better. Not perfect, but my skin is calm so I'll take it.

That’s great that you’re giving advice but there are other actives that essentially help achieve similar results like lactic and glycolic acids. Retinoids can cause sun sensitivity for people with outdoor traveling jobs even with proper sunscreen use and protective gear. Most 99% of the people who push retinoids down everyone’s throats don’t work jobs that require prolonged periods of skin exposure to the elements.

You do need to start slow . Ic been using tretnoid for over 6 years slow to start it your face may have a reaction. Moisturizer first then try it every other day maybe 2 times a week . Slow is the key. But persistent is the end results. Great video

I *needed* to hear this. I have a bottle on my cabinet that I look at every day but don’t have current skin issues, just signs of aging (I’m 34.) I suppose I’ll start tonight because I could use a little skin love!

I waited 1.5 years until I stopped using tretinoin. The whole time my skin was SO dry that I looked 10x worse than before, no matter how much I cared for my skin. I wish it would have worked for me like it did for others, it’s definitely not a safe bet for anyone

Thanks for the reminder to BE PATIENT!! I've been on tretinoin for 6-7 months and feeling like it's doing nothing any more. I'll keep going!

Thanks for this video today! I'm in the thick of the purging as we speak and my gosh it's so hard to look at it and go through it as it just keeps getting worse and worse .. my skin has never broke out like this in my 38 years of life and it's been really hard but it's advice and encouragement like this I need to keep going forward with it knowing that what I don't see now will be yhe greatest reward after winning this crazy acne Love you bunches and thanks heart to heart!!! 💖

I'm 22 and developed adult acne, I started using skin and me to clear my spots and after four months I was happy to go out without makeup again and now I've started using their tretinoin anti aging solution and there's been minimal purging due to my previous treatment. Sticking with something and seeing how far you've come is amazing! I would do it all again no hesitation!

I had really bad acne problem too. I tried 1000s of products such as curology, paula’s choice, even Differin. The only thing that worked for me was a prescribed medication in capsule form which i took 2twice a day from mouth for 2 months along with tretinoin. After 6 months, my acne, acne scars, even dark circles were gone. I still use Tretinoin and now my skin honestly looks better alone than with makeup on. Like it has a different glow to it. I will never stop wearing tretinoin.

You’ve got to just keep giving it time to work mine took 2 years to really start “working” and showing improvement and then suddenly I was looking amazing

Im very lucky to have pretty tough skin, so I never broke out when I started with tretinoin. But I think if you do, there is still a form of retinoid on the market for you. The best product is one that you will continue using. Even if tretinoin is the “best” overall, it will have zero effect for you if you’re not using it ofc! But if there is a derivative that does work for you, that will give you so much more benefit than a tretinoin that you are not using ☺️

My personal anecdote is using OTC retinol for two years then switching to 0.025% tret. I was up to every other day use within two weeks—without a single sign of purging or dryness. I honestly get LESS irritation from tret than I did from retinol, which is often in formulations that include a bunch of other stuff that can set off sensitive skin. Every other day is plenty for me. I MIGHT try to go up to 0.5% after this tube, but things are going so well already I might just call it good.
