Now explain why devices are being made thinner and thinner rather than just increasing the size of the battery in that same space.

You can make your battery last longer by not watching YouTube videos on your unplugged device... like what I'm doing right now.

Now I'll be in a convo like "hey I gotta charge my phone I'm at 70% ttyl"

These tips are currently updated. The optimal battery charging should be between 20% and 90%, with the optimal level being 50%. Both exhausting your battery and keeping it plugged in even if it's at 100% is not advisable, as there's where the battery struggles more and consequently creates unnecessary heat. That is also why many high end phones have night charging plan that fills your battery up to 70% and then does the last 30% only one hour before your wake up time. Fast charging also generates more heat, so it can shorten your battery lifespan.

Guys, can you talk about nuclear energy?

Why does my phone tell me I have 12% battery, but when I plug it in, it changes to 2% or 50%?

SHUT UP AND TELL ME IF I CAN USE MY PHONE WHILE IM CHARGING

Wow, I have been letting my battery run down for years. I've even looked this stuff up and never heard anything to suggest that was a bad idea! Thanks SciShow!

For tablets and mobile devices: turn off wifi, when you aren't using browsing or watching youtube videos. Wifi can be a sizable power sink if not managed properly.

What do Stormtroopers yell when their blasters run low on power? "Charge!"

When they ask "how to make it last longer" I think they meant more in the sense, how to get more use out of a single charge, and not so much how to extend the battery life span. Just my opinion.

Now I wish I could find the article I read somewhere recently that said the exact opposite of this regarding letting a phone battery exhaust itself before recharging. It was written in a very snotty way, too, as if anyone who wasn't doing that was a fool who was destroying their battery because they were so anxious about keeping their phone fully charged.

"The higher the charge is before you plug in. The longer the battery will last" contradicts one of your sources as it's kinda implying that it's better to always keep your batteries charged at a higher voltage (percentage charged), whereas, Battery University from your sources say that "Li-ion does not need to be fully charged as is the case with lead acid, nor is it desirable to do so. In fact, it is better not to fully charge because a high voltage stresses the battery. Choosing a lower voltage threshold or eliminating the saturation charge altogether, prolongs battery life but this reduces the runtime."

The fact would only be true if you're referring to the runtime of the battery in "The longer the battery will last" but that doesn't answer how you should be going about charging li-ion batteries.

What about using your phone or laptop while charging it? Does it kill the battery faster?
