Lois Auta was Affected by polio at age two but she sees her disability as a bridge not a barricade, as a blessing and not a curse and as an opportunity to change the world, she also believes that disability does not define her but her ability does. Lois is a woman of 99 abilities and only 1 disability called polio that affected only her legs.
Lois is a 2014 Mandela Washington Fellow, 2016 Ashoka Changemaker, Finalist at Aso Villa Demo Day 2016, 2017 Dangote Fellow, Former First Vice President of Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Association Nigeria (MWFAAN), Lois is presently the Vice President of African Changemakers Network. Lois Auta has placed Nigeria on the global map by being the only Nigerian selected as a young global leader of the world economic forum and the first black physically challenged black woman from Africa in 2017. She is a mentor with MasterCard Foundation, Baobab Foundation and Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme. She contested for House of Representatives in AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the 2019 Nigeria’s elections and emerged the first and only woman with disability that ran for the position amongst 4080 candidates. She is the President of Women on Wheels, Initiator and Chairperson of Network of Disabled Women Organisations with 63 organisations of women with disabilities in Africa, 70% presence in Nigeria collaborating with regional and international organisations of disabled women. She is the co-founder of Advocacy for Women with Disabilities Initiative and Founder of E-Ability Platform. She is passionate about advocacy, empowerment, employment, enablement, SGBV, accessibility, sexual & reproductive health rights, disability sports, participation of women with disabilities in politics, mentorship and disability inclusion.
Lois is the founder and Executive Director of Cedar Seed Foundation, CSF is a non-profit, nongovernmental, non-sectarian, non-partisan, youth-led independent development organization that promotes inclusion and equal opportunities for disabled people. Lois founded CSF with the objective of mainstreaming the issues and concerns of persons with disabilities particularly women, girls and children with disabilities in Nigeria into the national development agenda based on the United Nations Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities (UNCRPD). Since the inception of Cedar Seed Foundation Lois and her team have affected thousands of persons with disabilities through their ideas and initiatives. She has represented persons with disabilities particularly women with disabilities, locally and globally.
