The human body is a complex machine which needs a constant supply of nutrients and oxygen to work. The Circulatory System does the work of supplying nutrients and oxygen to all parts of the body and removing carbon dioxide and waste materials from them.

The Circulatory system has two parts:

A. Heart - The heart is the center of the Circulatory system. It keeps pumping blood throughout the body. It sends pure, oxygen-rich blood to all the parts of the body and receives impure blood from them. This impure blood, which contains carbon dioxide, is then sent to the lungs for purification.

B. Blood Vessels - There are 2 types of blood vessels:
Arteries carry pure blood from the heart to all the parts of the body.
Veins take impure blood from all the parts of the body to the heart.

Blood is made up of Red Blood Cells (RBC), White Blood Cells (WBC) and plasma. The RBC carry the oxygen in the blood. The WBC are responsible for fighting the germs that enter our body.

The plasma is the liquid part of the blood and makes up almost 50% of the blood. The food nutrients and other substances needed by all the parts of the body are dissolved and transported by the plasma. Similarly, all the waste substances to be thrown out from the lungs and kidneys are also dissolved in the plasma and transported.
