I grew up in a similar household to Remi - no love was shown to us by our Nigerian parents. We were only valued for what we attained educationally an we were told often we were 'useless' and would never be anything in life if we didnt excel. This made it difficult for when I came to faith because it was hard tlfor me to understand grace or to understand that God is loving, forgiving and that Jesus did it all on the Cross and our works can not redeem us
