Breaking Down the Cost of 3D Printed Injection Molds - Formlabs Customer Case Study
Показать описание
Injection molding is a widely used method for creating low-cost, high-volume, highly precise and repeatable plastic parts. The mold and related tooling required for this process can be prohibitive for lower volume parts and to prototype the parts for early testing and design review needs. With the addition of 3D Printing, molds can be created for low-volume part production and prototyping.
In this case study, a customer shares their costs and timelines for traditional vs. 3D Printed injection molds and how they supported the pandemic response with injection molded mask holders at a very low tooling cost and with a fast turnaround. Creating parts directly using 3D Printing could not keep up with the part demand, and the tooling process for injection molding caused delays and required logistics that weren't acceptable. With 3D Printed molds, the high-volume production process can be implemented quickly and inexpensively, providing the best benefits of each process!
