Hi there, Artists! 👋

Are you ready to learn my EASY trick that is a wonderful way to get your painting off to a fabulous start? In this tutorial, I will share my fun and effective trick for crafting an intriguing focal point and injecting your artwork with a narrative twist. 🎨

🌈 What's the Trick?
Prior to starting a painting I recommend printing out a reference image and painting or sketching directly onto it. Yep, you heard it right! Watch as I identify and clarify focal points, turning a simple reference into a painting filled with visual meaning. Plus, there's a bonus! It often results in a more painterly and impressionistic masterpiece!

🎨 What to Expect

Lesson Highlights:
Exploring the easy trick for establishing focal points.
Translating reference images into visual stories.
Creating a painting that goes beyond re-creation to storytelling.

💡 Why Storytelling Matters:
It's my goal to not only teach you how to paint; but to hopefully turn you into storytellers. It's not about mimicking a photo; it's about infusing your art with soul.

So come on artists.... Let's break free from the ordinary and create something extraordinary together!

This is totally unique!!! I'm new to this, so this really helps. I'm a gigging instrumental jazz/fusion guitarist getting back into drawing, use to draw when I was a kid, like 45-50yrs ago, but got into music & performance, so this is whole different & unique venture, you're really a Great teacher, thanks & God Bless.

Thank you Susan for an interesting video & painting. Using a printout to help rough out your ideas is a good lesson to learn, this helps with the story that you're trying to tell. :)

Painting on the printout!! I never would have thought of that. Is it just on regular printer paper??

I love how you work, your textures, colors❤, etc., but, the two trees on the right appear to be sharing a story which draws a little to much interest.
