CNN’s Nick Paton Walsh, travels with a group of migrants as they make the arduous trek on foot through Central and South America.
The journey through the Darien Gap is a perilous jungle crossing between Colombia and Panama that many migrants must face as they head north to seek asylum in the United States. Over five harrowing days, Paton Walsh hikes the full 66-mile roadless route, documenting the heroism of everyday people, milked for cash by drug cartels and unwanted by any country, as they battle the dense rainforest in search of a better life. Watch 'The Whole Story With Anderson Cooper' Sundays at 8PM ET on CNN.

Thank you God for all that I have. I’m truly grateful and I realized how blessed I am on my bad days. God bless this country enough to make the ppl comfortable and happy 🙏🏾

As an immigrant myself who escaped Vietnam in the 80's with my family as a child, I can relate to these people. People are looking for better lives so don't judge until you walk in their shoes. The journey of getting out is never easy. Yes, life is not easy here in America but hell, certainly a lot better than where they come from.

Does CNN cover the homelessness crisis all over America?

Poverty is not grounds for amnesty. The US is not responsible for the world's poor, we have our own.

The best option is to help these countries to have a better government.

The little boy who lost his parents & all he’s looking forward to is his dad building a swimming pool. Kids are so innocent & pure I really hope he makes it out and has a life he’s always dreamed of. ❤

Imagine doing all this to come to a country during its collapse, it’s crazy how nobody understands how empires fall. They’ll regret their decision soon

It’s sad man. I had few young coworkers from Venezuela and Peru that when they started at the company they had only been in the US for about 10 days. Some of the funniest, most honest and Hardest working people I’ve met, they’ve been here 10 days and already have found work. Something one of them said that will stick with me is when I asked “why did you come to X city of all places? Did you have a choice?” He said “it is the city that welcomed me so here I am” - that’s something you would never hear an American say.

We have American citizens who are perfectly capable of working that claim disability, stand on a corner and beg, or e-beg etc. - and people still have the nerve to say “they’re stealing our jobs”

One guy even bought a cheap car here and said it was his first time driving a car, he asked questions about the car and what type of gas he should use I helped him out.

All they want is a better life for themselves and their family. Some are even sending supplies and money back to their family.

I don't understand, they are not being forced to make that trip! It's by choice. If they weren't being encouraged by the current administration, they wouldn't be coming. I truly feel for the children being put through this. But, why do they expect for American taxpayers to take care of them? By the way, they look quite clean for people who have been traveling for days through the jungle. 7 million have crossed the border illegally since 1.21, what they don't understand is that America will soon be like the countries they are leaving.

The incompetence and corruption that runs through this administration are getting more ridiculous. I feel for people with disabilities not getting the help they deserved. Thank you Beatriz, imagine investing $1000 and receiving $4, 300 in a few days🇬🇧

It’s so many of them I think they should stay in their country and fight oppression instead of drowning another country.

Why is America the final destination? There's plenty of safe cartel free countries in South America, Latin America and the Caribbean. Why not make a home there?

It's a shame but we are not being so judgemental, what are we going to do with all these people ? Americans have it hard themselves these days, how can we accommodate them all, feel bad for little ones it's too much for them.

We don't realize how lucky we are to be born in the US. These immigrants are desperate for just the chance to live here. They don't really want to leave their home, family, and country but must feel driven to risk everything. The Darien Gap looks like a nightmare, and I'm sure there are horrors we weren't shown.

What boggels my mind, why is most people migrating to the very same countries that they hate so much and doesnt these crazy politicians from where these poor migrants come from ever feel ashamed of themselves to put their own countryman through such pain and suffering thus putting a further burden onto another country?
