Check out their Google reviews.

Also check out the Bar Association for your specific area to see if the lawyer you're considering has had any suspensions or grievances against them.
The Bar Association will also help you find the best attorney that is suited for your specific legal case.

Step 3:
Choose 3-4 candidates
Make sure you set up appointments with each of them.
Also, ask the attorney if the appointments are complementary or not.

Step 4:
Make sure you ask the lawyer specific questions.
Are you familiar with this type of legal matter?
How many cases has the attorney handled that are similar to your case?
What is their track record?
How many trials have they had?
Have they been successful
How many bench trials or jury trials has the lawyer been a part of.
What is your fee?
Do you charge more to go to trial?
May I speak to some references?

Step 5:
Make sure you understand that there are no guarantees in any type of legal matter. So any promises the attorneys may make should be taken with a grain of salt.

Step 6:
Trust your gut. If you don't feel comfortable communicating with the attorney at the consultation, you certainly wont feel comfortable during the case.
